St. Petersburg, Florida is a city in the U.S. state of Florida and the county seat of Pinellas County. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 242,814. The city is located on Tampa Bay, about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of downtown Tampa and 30 minutes by car from Clearwater Airport. By 1845, all but 4 percentof present-day Pinellas County was empty land because so many English settlers had moved westward during the 1830s gold rush era into newly discovered regions such as Seminole Country (now part of Hillsborough County).
