The town has a population of just over 2,000 people today. In 1932, Stuart was renamed to Stuart Springs after Stuarts grandson and namesake, also named James P. Stuart Sr., who died in 1928. The history of Stuart began with the establishment of the first post office in this small community on December 12th, 1892. At that time there were only two homes in the community and no businesses or schools. The first American Baptist Church was built in 1893 and it served as the main worship center for the community until 1951 when it burned down due to a fire that started while residents were using it as a storage shed. In 1932, when Palm Beach County became Statewide, Stuarts name was changed to Stuart Springs after Stuarts grandson and namesake James P. Stuart Jr., who had died in 1928 at age 25 years old while serving in World War I overseas with the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). A new high school was built on land donated by Mrs. Louise Matson later that year which remains one of the most popular high schools in Palm Beach County today- offering over 350 courses available through its 10 campuses across five counties! The original post office building remained active into 1984 when it closed due to lack of customers following mail delivery being discontinued from inside local feeder bars during prohibition days! Today much of what once made up Stewart's downtown core has been replaced by strip malls and other commercial properties founded by developers looking to capitalize on easy access to Interstate 95 southbound from nearby Jupiter Boulevard making Stewart an ideal location for large mall development! However some remnants from early history still remain including the original post office building which is now used as part of a private golf course clubhouse housing memberships for their members staffs!
