Stuart, Florida is a city located in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,614 at the 2010 census. Stuart was incorporated on February 20, 1907. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sunnyvale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Stuart" comes from an early settler named Stuart who landed on what is now Stuart Island in 1823. In 1903, the town of Stuart was renamed for General James Stewart after his victory over Spanish forces at Palo Alto Hill. The first post office in Stuart opened in 1903 and remained open until it closed on October 25, 1951. In 1907, local businessmen approached General James Stewart with a proposal to rename the town of Stuart after him due to his military service during World War I and his role as Commander-in-Chief of American Expeditionary Forces Europe during that war. After much deliberation and consideration by the town board, General James Stewart approved the name change and appointed Mayor Edward Coker as its first official mayor. On December 4th 1907 Stuarts' first election took place under new voting laws which allowed citizens to vote by checkerboard instead of individual ballots. The community voted 59% in support of changes made to their charter which included incorporation into a new county; this action also granted Stuarts municipal rights not enjoyed by neighboring towns such as Kissimmee or Sanford which were all unincorporated villages at that time In 1909-1910 there were two school districts established within Stuarts boundaries: one serving students living east of US Highway 1 (now Interstate 95) while another served students living west of US Highway 1 (now US Highway 192). These school districts are still active today with students from both areas attending common schools called Kirkman Elementary School and Indian River Middle/High School in nearby Kissimmee . There were also three churches located within striking distance: First Presbyterian Church – 3 miles ESE; Methodist Episcopal Church – 5 miles WNW; Baptist church - 8 miles SSW . All three churches remain active today with services being held each Sunday morning at 11am . Finally there was a small grocery store located 2 blocks NE corner intersection of Main Street & High Street serving only residents of the city limits . Today there are no remains remaining from those days but many artifacts have been preserved thanks to donations from members and guests alike including coins donated by visitors along with photos taken inside original stores

Stuart, Florida is a small town located in the panhandle of Florida. The population was only 1,500 at the time of its incorporation in 1959 and has since grown to over 14,000 residents. The town is well known for its citrus industry and for its annual Stuartsville Festival which takes place in late July/early August. The first settlers to Stuart were two brothers, Wernher and George Stuckey. They came from what is now Erie County, Pennsylvania in 1836 and built a cabin on the banks of the Apalachicola River. The Stuckeys were pioneer farmers who grew crops and raised livestock until 1870 when they sold their land to James Robertson. Robertson founded Jacksonville Landing on the riverbank where he built a dockyard, warehouses, hotel and other facilities necessary for Jacksonville’s growth as a port town. In 1898 Jacksonville Landing became part of Stuart after it was annexed by Jacksonville. In 1959 Stuart was incorporated as a village with a population of 1,500 people. It quickly grew into an agricultural community with citrus production being its mainstay economy until the early 1970s when tourism began to take hold as the leading factor behind local economic development. Today, Stuart remains an active community with strong ties to both education and agriculture; it hosts many cultural events throughout the year including its annual Stuartsville Festival which attracts more than 20,000 visitors each year!
