Everytown for Gun Safety (ETGS) is a national nonprofit organization committed to making America’s gun laws smarter and more responsive to the needs of all Americans. ETGS has been working in partnership with the local chapter of The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence (BCPV) in Sunny Isles Beach since 2007. In that time, ETGS has collected over 1,000 firearms from individuals who have made donations to BCPV through its “Gun Gifting Program.” These guns have been used by BCPV members in their work on weapons control campaigns and inside the community. The Guns That Changed Florida: A History of Gun Donation Programs in Sunny Isles Beach Since 2007, The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and ETGS’s “Gun Gifting Program” have partnered together to collect firearms from individuals who make donations to BCPV through our program. This way we are able not only give these Firearms away but also document their history so that future generations can learn about this important resource and how it has helped contribute to improving firearm safety in Florida. In order for us to be able offer these firearms for donation we need your help! We would love for you to come out and participate in our program and donate a firearm with us! There are no guarantees as this is an anonymous process, however if you choose this option please leave your name, email address, phone number, and donation amount(s). Sunny Isles Beach, Florida is a town located on the Gulf of Mexico in Broward County, Florida. The population was 34,592 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. As one of South Floridas' oldest communities and its largest beach community, Sunny Isles Beach has been home to many notable people including Ulysses S. Grant, Harry S Truman and Frankie Valli. The town's name comes from "Sunsky Sands," an inlet that forms between the southern tip of Biscayne Bay and the mainland. The area now known as Sunny Isles Beach was first inhabited by Native American tribes for thousands of years before Europeans arrived in search of new land to explore in the early 16th century. Spanish explorers discovered this area in 1565 when they landed on Biscayne Bay while exploring Florida after being sent by Christopher Columbus on his Isla de la Cuba Voyage. When Spanish settlers began arrive in what is now Broward County around 1635 there were no settlements other than a few scattered houses built near Fort Lauderdale by Governor Fernandez de Santa Ana to provide defense against French and Indian attacks along the coast. In 1764 Captain José Crespo sailed up Sarasota River and discovered mangrove swamp which became known as "Crespo's Gardens." After landing on Biscayne Bay he named it Santiago because his ship had run aground there on December 11th during their attempt to cross Havana Harbor from Cuba to Puerto Rico with supplies for Genoa's army fighting against Spain under Admiral Antonio de Mora y Salazar; however, only four men survived (including Crespo) and all but three of his passengers died from exposure or disease soon after disembarking at Mérida Island off Tampa Bay.. In 1795 Juan Ponce de León explored Tampa Bay looking for a route across Central America to reach Santo Domingo so he could build a road connecting Tampa with Havana through what is now Miami-Dade County. On July 4th Ponce de León landed at present-day Sunny Isles Beach where he took possession of property that would later be developed into Sunny Isles Beach Shores by Captains Manuel Menendez y Menendez (1799-1857) and José Félix Hernández (1801-1882). Upon landfall Ponce De Leon set up a temporary government including five officials - governor, lieutenant governor, treasurer, justice OF Peace and physician - who administered justice within limits prescribed by law while he surveyed the area.. In 1807 San Miguel founded Stonington Key about 1 mile east of present day Sunrise Boulevard just south of US 41W allowing access only through private channels.. Commodore James Cook anchored off Sunrise Boulevard nearpresent day Snorkel Park during his famous exploration voyage led by Rear Admiral Edward Preble roundabout 200 miles southwestward Alongshore current day Treasure Island July 21st 1776 CC(4) In 1867 Jacksonville businessman John Witherspoon bought 5 acres next door to Sunnyside Heights for $5 per acre originally intending to develop it into housing but decided instead to open an amusement park called Seaside Park which today still operates as a tourist attraction adjacent To Sunnyside Blvd., just north Of US 1A . Witherspoon renamed it North Shore Park after himself but development stalled due mainly To lack Of money And interest From East Coasters Who Wanted To Live Close By With No Obstruction By locals So Today North Shore Park remains A popular tourist spot Close To Downtown Ft Lauderdale For All Occasions

Sunny Isles Beach, Florida is a beach town located on the Gulf of Mexico in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 23,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Sunny Isles Beach began as a small fishing village called Sunny Isles on November 15, 1915 when residents of nearby Biscayne Bay voted to create an incorporated village with its own board of directors. The first steps were taken to establish a school and infrastructure for the community when President Woodrow Wilson appointed Dr. Wm. Hargrave as the first superintendent of schools for Broward County in 1916. A year later, Sunny Isles Beach had its first post office and two houses were built for mail carrier Mrs. Mabel Karpinski and her husband Leo Karpinski. In 1922, Sunny Isles Beach's first church was dedicated by Revd Edward Fenton and Dr. Edwin Pogue officiated at the service which also included music by pianist Harry Chandler from his home on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami Gardens. In 1927, Sunny Isles Beach became one of ten communities that took part in what is known as "The Great Miami Hurricane" Relief Expedition which sailed into Cuban port with supplies and refugees fleeing Hurricane Wilma that had devastated much of Cuba during October-November 1987 Accumulated damage from Hurricane Wilma totaled $27 million (2002 dollars). The communities that participated include Coral Gables ($14 million), Little Havana ($10 million), Midtown Miami (960 acres including access to Grand Central Terminal) ($5 million), Liberty City (1 acre) and West Palm Beach ($2 million). On December 6-8th, 1987 all but four of these towns along with Port St Lucie became sections of President Clinton's hurricane rescue plan dubbed "Operation Neptune's Spear". On December 12th following passage through Passes Key Passage into Tampa Bay there was strong winds gusting up to 130 mph nearshore along with high waves making it almost impossible for anyboats or ships to enter or leave TampaBay Harbor without being damaged or sunk contact was lost with many communities within hours after landfall leading diversions were put into place beginning at 8am CST December 13th until 11pm ESTDecember 14th several hundred miles out from where land touched down most areas have been destroyedeyewitness reports indicate over 100 homes have collapsed leaving behind widespread debris field including major roads washed away power has been knocked out throughout much territory barrons air force base has been hit hard with loss total 5 people dead so far 3 are military members contractor workers at british gas plant have also died some injuries are reported among those caught up in this storm many people remain unaccounted for more than 60 bodies have never been found no bodies have ever been identified remains recovered from waters off shore anywhere near shore
