The division'simental insignia included a blue and gold shield with a white star in the center, which represented the division's title of "The Blue and Gold." The division also wore blue helmets with white stars on them. In 1943, the Miami-Dade County Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance allowing private citizens to provide military uniforms for local government employees. This ordinance allowed individuals to give or sell military uniforms for use by county officials. In 1945, the USAAF assigned fighter planes to divisions stationed in Miami-Dade County. These aircraft were used for target practice and other aerial maneuvers. As a result of this assignment, many patriotic residents donated coats, hats, and other clothing items suited for flying personnel. In 1951, Sunnyside Beach established its own police department under special law enforcement jurisdiction due to lack of nearby law enforcement resources. At that time, there were no uniformed officers within Sunny Isles Beach proper. To provide these necessary services, the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department purchased two patrol cars from Broward County Sheriff's Office and placed them on display at City Hall. The first car was replaced in 1984 after it became evident that it could not handle rough treatment during patrols near Coral Gables beachfront properties frequented by vacationers and summer workers alike In 1969, Sunrise Boulevard was renamed National Guard Boulevard in commemoration of soldiers who had served during World War II and Korea as well as those who would serve throughout Operation Desert Storm (1991–1992). A plaque located at Sunrise Boulevard meters declared: "This Boulevard Was Named For Patriots Who Served On Both Bodden And Dune Straps" Since then, numerous events have been held honoring members of the Sunshine Belt National Guard including parades down Sunrise Boulevard each year on Armed Forces Day; Flag Day Observation ceremonies; motorcycle rallies; educational programs about different aspects of national guard service; rodeo competitions; golf tournaments; bagpipes concerts ( annually ); carnival games ( annually ); fireworks displays
