The coffee house was a small shop that served coffee and pastries from a single location. It was also the first place to sell espresso. In 1925, Davidoff & Sons began selling coffee beans in Sunrise Boulevard on Miami's south side. In 1955, Ray Charles started his own small-batch coffee business in Miami Beach. By 1962, all of Sunrise Boulevard had been leased to Davidoff & Sons and they began manufacturing their entire line of caffeine products at their new production plant. In 1978, Sunrise Boulevard was renamed "Sunny Isles Boulevard" in commemoration of the opening of the then largest coffeemaker factory in South Florida - Sunbeam Coffee Manufacturing Corporation - which produced an incredible 1 million cups of Italian roast coffee each year! In 1990, Davidoff & Sons closed down their Sunrise Boulevard production facility and transitioned to World Wide Coffee operations under the name "D&S". D&S continued producing world-class caffeine products until 2003 when they turned over all operations to Jitney Coffee Inc., located on State Road A1A just north of The Mall at Miramar (now part of Airport South). Today there are only a few remaining descendants of those who founded Sunrise Boulevard – Jitney Coffee Inc., and two other smaller businesses that still produce small batch coffee: First Pacific Espresso Company and Joe's Café'. All three businesses continue to operate out of two modest warehouses located on Northwest Third Street near Miracle Mile Drive – one belonging to Jitney Coffee Inc., while the other is currently used as storage by First Pacific Espresso Company.
