In Sweetwater, Florida, the United States Army has been present since 1878. The first soldier to arrive in the area was Captain John C. Potter of the 6th Infantry Regiment. In 1903, Colonel James A. Cooke of the 7th Infantry Regiment arrived and began construction on Fort Brooke as a training ground for new soldiers. The military installation became known as Fort Brooke Military Academy in 1912 when it was transferred from Jacksonville, Florida to Sweetwater. The schoolhosted classes for students from all over the United States during World War I and II. It also served as an armory for the local artillery battalion and provided storage for supplies during the Korean War and Vietnam War. In 1968, Fort Brooke Military Academy closed its doors after more than fifty years of operation. The town is located on US-1 south of Tallahassee and east of Gainesville. It is bordered to the north by Monroe County and to the east by Osceola County. Sweetwater has a total area of . As of the census of 2000, there were 1,711 people, 524 households, and 367 families residing in the town. The population density was 54 people per square mile (21/km²). There were 602 housing units at an average density of 31 per square mile (13/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White, 0% African American, 0% Native American, 0% Asian, and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3% of the population. There were 524 households out of which 36% had children underthe ageof 18 living with them, 58% were married couples living together, 11% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24% were non-families. 21%of all householdswere made up of individuals and 8% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older. Sweetwater, Florida is a town in Archer County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1907 by J.C. Sweet and his brother-in-law A.L. Hollis as a small community of 9 settlers on the banks of the Arkansas River. The first post office in Sweetwater was established in 1907 and operated until 1916. The name "Sweetwater" originated from J.C.'s wife's maiden name which was "Sweet." In 1908, Sweetville became an incorporated town and it followed suit in 1912 when North Little Rock incorporated as well. In 1928, Archer County was created and Sweetwater became its county seat with a population of 4,000 people; however it continued to operate as a small community with only nine residents until 1959 when all but one resident died due to natural causes or World War II service abroad (the last resident died in 1978). In 1957, two brothers named Dickey opened the first convenience store in Sweetwater after finding open land for purchase near Fort Smith (now Arkansas) along the Arkansas River about 30 miles east of Tulsa on Indian Territory land that had been ceded to the United States following the Mexican–American War. With this addition to local commerce sweet water experienced growth substantially over the next few decades as both business owners and residents invested their time and resources into building what would eventually become known as "The Gateway to East Oklahoma." Today there are more than 175 businesses located within walking distance of downtown including restaurants such as OKZN Chinese New Year Buffet & Grill which has been featured on national TV multiple times serving up steamed chicken dumplings wrapped around scallops or shrimp flounders served with ginger sauce; Asphalt Labor Supply where you can buy tools for your car repair shop or do some home repairs; Home Depot - several stores including one inside Children’s Mercy Hospital - provide helpful advice on items ranging from lawn care to buying new tires; KFC - they have since closed down but left their famous fried chicken sitting out front still cooked over an open flame (a tradition that began back when they were just calledCountry Time); Walmart - they provide general merchandise items such as groceries, batteries, lumber & hardware among other things while also having several large parking lot areas available for customers to spend their afternoon if they so choose; Oldsmobile Dealership - once home to Buick Motorsports Park where drivers could compete against each other during sanctioned events; now used mostly for storage purposes although there is evidence that someone once built an airplane hangar out back using some of those spaces It should be noted that not every business owner had access to these activities listed above nor did everyone live close by although many residents did commute long distances for work or pleasure outside of town limits (this included many farmers who grew crops around Tulsa). On January 6, 1845, the first Sweetwater County courthouse was erected on the present site of US-441 in what is now Sweetwater. The courthouse was one of two county buildings constructed in that year. It served as a court house and jail for about 10 years before it burned down in 1851. The second courthouse was built on the same location and served until 1886 when it also burned down.
