During World War II there were more than 7000 Guardsmen mobilized statewide and deployed to 43 states under Operation Neptune’s Spear including Florida which played a critical role with 9th Infantry Regiment stationed at Fort Myers Beach from 1942-1945 During World War II, the National Guard served not just as a reserve force but also offered service as part of Army Forces Auxiliary Command providing troops for duty outside of America when called upon by Roosevelt’s Emergency Committee Against Communism (ECAC) In 1947 Congress passed act authorizing sale and distribution of firearms to certain members/unitsof National Guard On September 14th 1957 Governor Easley ordered 150 surplus rifles donated by Armed Forces Unit #2 c/o Mrs A H Stovall to be turned into handguns for use by local law enforcement agencies In 1978 Gadsden County Sheriff's Office received 4 new PPC shotguns which they put into service that same year

Sweetwater is located in Putnam County, Florida and it was named after the sweet water creek which flowed through the town. The town was founded in 1834 by a group of men who were looking for a place to settle. The first store was built in 1835. Sweetwater had a population of only 50 people when it incorporated as a town in 1868. In 1911, Sweetwater became the county seat of Putnam County. The county courthouse was constructed in 1912 and it is still used today. The first post office in Sweetwater was established on December 12, 1834, and it served the community until 1840. The first school opened on October 15, 1836, and it operated until September 1, 1861. It was replaced by the present school district which opened on November 3rd, 1907. The population of Sweetwater declined from its original 150 people to just 10 people by 1910 due to World War I and World War II. By 1957, the population had increased to 85 people due to annexation by neighboring Lake Worth Township. Afterward, the population decreased again until 1990 when it reached its current level of 32 residents
Sweetwater was founded in 1836 by a group of speculators looking for land to grow cotton. The town grew rapidly and soon had a population of around 100 people. In 1849, Sweetwater became the county seat of Escambia County. In 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee moved his headquarters from Gainesville to sweetwater after the Battle of Gainesville and began preparations for an attack on Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina. On April 14, 1861, Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter with devastating results, leading to the launch of the Civil War. After the war ended in 1865, Sweetwater slowly lost its importance as a commercial center due to Interstate 10 being built nearby. However, it continued to exist as a small community until it was destroyed by fire in 1984.
