Sweetwater, Florida is home to the oldest coffee plantation in America. The land was bought by Nicholas Sweet in 1837 and began production of coffee beans. In 1865, Andrew Johnson became President of the United States and ordered an embargo against all Brazilian coffee because he felt that Brazil was cheating on their trade agreements. This led to a period of economic recession in the United States and prices for coffee rose as a result. In 1960, Sweetwater Coffee Corporation was founded and began marketing its product under the name "National Coffee." By 1970, National Coffee had become one of the world's leading coffee companies. The company has continued to produce high-quality coffee products ever since. Some of their most famous brands include Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Caribou Coffee, Peet's Coffeeshop, Dutch Bros., La Caja Azul (Blue Bottle) and many others.

Sweetwater is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Ft. The community began as a collection of log cabin settlements on springs near Sweetwater Creek. In 1868, General James K. Polk established a post office in Sweetwater with mail service from Tampa Bay. By 1902, when sweet water creek was renamed for John C. Frémont because he had been governor of California during that time period, Sweetwater had a full-time school and two stores - one operated by Jno Withers and oneoperated by Wm Sells - both of which still stand today.. In 1930, Dixie Electric Railway donated land for a power plant authorized under an Act of Congress known as "The Roosevelt National Recovery Act". The plant consisted of four coalfields connected by an pipeline carrying steam from coal mines in Alabama to be used for electric generation in Florida; each coalfield produced about one million horsepower (460 MW). After World War II ended there were few new electrical generating facilities built in America so this gift became an important symbol of postwar American growth and development.. In 1957 local entrepreneur Art Rooney bought all six miles (10 km) of railroad right-of-way extending into Sweetwater from Osceola County; he then developed it into what is now called Rooney's Park. In 1969 local real estate developer Charlie Swensen purchased all remaining rights to develop Sweetwater; he has since made it his core business activity developing upscale housing developments around its central park complex.. Today, Sweetwater remains primarily rural with most residents working agriculture or other related fields; however there are numerous businesses including several restaurants/bars/cafes/, two banks/credit unions/brokerages/, several churches/mosques/, three schools (grades PreK-12th), three golf courses (), five rentals properties (), three parks (), two medical clinics () and one yacht club ().
