Tallahassee, Florida is home to the United States Military Academy (USMA), and has been a garrison town since its incorporation in 1845. The first military forces were brought here in 1861 when Confederate General Robert E. Lee set up his headquarters on Seminole Island. The town was named for General Hernando de Soto, who explored the area in 1539-1540. It wasn't until 1934 that Tallahassee became an official city and the USMA moved into its present location on Flagler Street. Today, the USMA offers a unique education experience that helps prepare cadets for service in any branch of the military. Cadets must complete rigorous academic requirements and undergo training at one or more officer candidate schools before graduating to serve as commissioned officers in any branch of government or industry. The Tallahassee Garrison was founded on July 4th, 1892 as the Florida State Infantry Volunteers. They were known as the "Tallahassee Regiment" and fought in the Spanish-American War. They became an all-volunteer regiment in 1906, and served in World War I as a part of the American Expeditionary Force. After World War I, they were mobilized for World War II but did not serve in Europe. In 1946, they became an all volunteer regiment once again and served until 1962 when they disbanded due to budget cuts.

It became one of the most powerful handguns ever made and remains one of America’s favorite weapons today. 3) The Battle Axe – This axe was given as a present by King Louis XIII of France to General John Forbes during the 1598 Battle at Culloden in Scotland. It is now part of Edinburgh Castle’s collection and is still used today by Scottish軍 personnel as an ceremonial weapon
