The Second World War brought about an influx of troops into the city and several barracks were built in downtown Tallahassee specifically for this purpose. These barracks include Regimental Barracks #5 (later renamed Camp Blanding), Camp Polk and Camp Clearwater which housed both American and British troops during the war. During peacetime, there has been no permanent military presence in Tallahassee, but various units have continued to be stationed here intermittently throughout the years. In 2007, it was announced that US Army Garrison Company C would be moving from Fort Benning, Georgia to Naval Station Mayport in Sumter County beginning in 2008. At present there are no plans for permanently occupying any new buildings within the city limits; however, if necessary or desired, these units could move back or forth between our facilities at any time depending on Pentagon policy or theater missions/operations
