The Tallahassee Naval Base has been a part of the Florida military for over fifty years. The base is home to the United States Navy’s Sixth Fleet and it is also where many of America’s most iconic decorations and awards are kept, including the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal, and Purple Heart. Naval Station Tallahassee was activated on October 1st, 1943 as Camp Monroe. It was renamed Battle Creek Naval Air Station in 1945 after Battle Creek, Michigan became home to the United States Navy’s Fifth Fleet. In 1947 Camp Monroe became Naval Air Station Pensacola with an area of 423 acres. On May 9th, 1949 USS Enterprise (CV-6) arrived at NAS Pensacola with Rear Admiral John F. Buckley as Commanding Officer. NAS Pensacola would become home to various USN warships until its closure in 1956 due to budget cuts within the navy. During World War II USS Enterprise served in the Pacific Theater and conducted antisubmarine warfare operations off Okinawa Japan and Formosa Taiwan before being decommissioned on November 15th 1945 en route back to San Diego California having played a significant role in helping win World War II for USA.

Tallahassee, Florida is a major city in the state of Florida and the county seat of Leon County. The population was 38,651 as of the 2010 census. Tallahassee is located on the Atlantic coast of Florida, bordered by Hillsborough County to the north and west, Citrus County to the east and south, and Seminole County to the southeast. The name "Tallahassee" was given by early French explorers during their exploration of North America in 1665-66 when they named a bay "Ocala" after Captain Jean Baptiste de la Salle who had explored that area earlier that year. The first inhabitants of what is now Tallahassee were Native American Choctaw people who lived along this coast for thousands of years before European settlers arrived. When Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León discovered Florida in 1513 he named it San Miguel de Allende (later Saint Augustine), but changed it again to Táchira in 1527 following his visit with Hernando Cortés. In 1665-66 France's René Descartes visited this area and gave initial English reports about its natural beauty which quickly led to Indian trading posts being established here among numerous others throughout what is now South America before French traders landed here in 1763 as part of an effort attempt to extend French influence into North America beyond New France. In 1821 Congress passed an act providing for a permanent government at Tallahassee under direction from James Kenedy, then governor of Mexico City through letters patent from President James Kenedy dated November 9th, 1821 authorising him “to take care that all proper steps are taken for building up this town according to your idea”; Kenedy having been impressed by Tallahasa's potential as a commercial center due largely to its strategic location midway between Pensacola and Mobile Bay on both coasts – qualities also emphasized by Governor John Crain during his aborted Jacksonville session two months earlier on October 27th when he recommended Tallahasa be designated Alabama’s new capital; although Don Carlos Fajardo was still acting governor at the time – all three men being confirmed as co-authors thereof on December 5th when Crain officially erected the first brick building at present day: “the only one still standing” within today’s downtown district… A later ordinance establishing boundaries for future wards provided: “that each ward shall have one representative on either house [of] parliament proper; but no person holding any office whatsoever within such house or parish shall be entitled thereto save such person as may be elected by direct vote from citizens thereof…all elections hereafter held will be direct popular votes” Hernando Tejada became territorial administrator after Mexican War while most Floridians remained loyalists until Napoleon Bonaparte's January 1st proclamation ordering all Floridians must join Continental Army or face martial law ending freedom under Spanish rule starting February 2nd with formal abolition effective March 12th becoming known as "Emancipation Day". On April 14th Felipe Gonzalez became provisional president pro tempore replacing Manuel Diaz y Costilla who refused service because he did not support Ulysses S. Grant during Grant's unsuccessful run for presidency against Polk in 1884. US military occupation began aboard USS Constitution on May 10th1846 with General José López de Santa Anna taking command soon thereafter once California Gold Rush ended resulting in Mexican Empire expanding eastward into what is now Texas ceded less than two months later including much of central Florida following Californios' Mexican victory over Umpire Pedro Menéndez Antonio Lastiriyez at Alvarado Bridge near Fort Yuma Proving ground).
