The navy has been a part of the community in Tamarac for many years. The first navy ship was built in 1851 and served during the Seminole Wars. In 1912, the navy donated a small vessel to be used as a training ship for new recruits. The town of Tamarac had its start when sailors from nearby Jacksonville came to live and work on the Naval Dockyard there. In 1917, the town was renamed after Admiral Jesse B. Wainwright, Commander-in-Chief United States Fleet at that time. In 1942, when World War II began, the US Navy decided to build two large ships in Florida for use in naval warfare against Japan. Work on these vessels continued until 1945, at which time they were completed and put into service under the name USS Enterprise (CVN 7). This event is considered to be the beginning of naval aviation in Florida. After World War II ended, there was a shift towards an agricultural economy in Florida and so it didn’t need such large warships anymore. However, because of this change, some remains of these warships still exist today as museum pieces or tourist attractions.

The Tamarac Naval Air Station (TNS) was established on December 8, 1942 as a naval air station in the town of Tamarac, Florida. The original purpose of the TNS was to provide aviation services to the United States Navy. On February 9, 1945, the TNS became an operational naval air station and served as a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier strike group headquarters during World War II. The TNS also played an important role in Operation Neptune's Spear which resulted in Iraqi forces retreating from Kuwait. In 1962, the TNS was redesignated Naval Air Station Jacksonville and remained an operational naval air station until 1986 when it became part of Aviation Command at Fort Worth Army Base. On May 1, 1992, Naval Air Station Jacksonville again became an operational naval air station and assumed its present name of NAS Miami Beach. NAS Miami Beach currently serves as a primary training ground for U.S Naval Aviation pilots and is home to several squadrons including Fleet Marine Force Squadron 452 (VF-45), Helicopter Squadron HSH-1D, Helicopter Squadron HMX-4N/MH-60G "Black Hawk" and Missile Squadron MQM-9C "Humvee".
Tamarac is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 20,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The name "Tamarac" comes from the Seminole word "tama", meaning "place of abundance." Anna Maria Island lies to the north and east of Tamarac, while Inverness Key lies to the southeast. The island's only land mass is an uninhabited promontory that juts into Sarasota Bay. According to the United States Census Bureau, Tamarac has a total area of , of which is land and (1%) is water. The Gulf Stream flows through Tamarac quickly and creates waves that can reach up to high on Inverness Key due to its sheltered location in Sarasota Bay and its proximity to downtown Miami. As such, it experiences very low humidity levels year-round as well as little or no flooding typical for areas along the Gulf Stream corridor. The city began developing rapidly after being founded by Philip II Augustus Gaines on Anna Maria Island in 1892 as a summer resort for wealthy locals who wanted easy access to both Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale proper. By 1928, Tamarac had become one of Broward County's largest cities with over 100 businesses and 3,000 residents; it was annexed by Palm Beach County in 1955 when it became part of South Florida's suburban growth spurt following passage of county-wide voter approval of zoning changes allowing more development near shopping malls and airports within Broward County limits without first obtaining city vote approval or agreement from nearby municipalities like West Palm Beach or Coral Gables

Tamarac, Florida is a small town in Duval County, Florida. The population was 3,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Tamarac was founded in 1836 by John A. Tamarac and his family as a sawmill on the Stonington River. In 1851, the Tamaracs donated land to the city of Jacksonville for public use, and in 1853 they built their first home on what is now Main Street. In 1865, John A. Tamarac was founded by ancestors of the current residents in 1892. The town was named after a large family of Seminole Indians who, because of their land ownership, were able to purchase large tracts of land. The first settlers were farmers and they raised chickens, dogs and pigs. By 1916, the population had grown to about 100 people and the town began to develop as a commercial center for citrus products. In 1935, Tamarac became part of the County of Hillsborough.
