The history of coffee in Tampa, Florida goes back to 1892. The first coffee shop in the city was opened by a man named John C. Reilly and his wife, Jobie, on State Road 7. In 1916, J.B. Ryan began selling coffee from a small truck on University Avenue. By the early 1920s, Ryan had started importing Italian coffees and brewed them himself at his business on West Hillsborough Street. In 1927, Joe's Coffee became the first grocery store in Tampa to sell coffee beans direct from Ethiopia. The store closed in 1977 but its legacy lives on as Joe's Coffee & Tea Bar which is still open today and offers top-quality Ethiopian coffees made fresh daily. In 1982, A&W Brewing Company opened its first restaurant in Tampa with an inside seating area for customers to enjoy their morning cup of coffee while sitting outside on one of five outdoor patio seating areas that included views of downtown Tampa Bay! Over time A&W Brewing Company has become one of the most popular restaurants in town with locations throughout Seminole County and across Florida!
