The United States Air Force deployed a gifts to the citizens of Tarpon Springs, Florida over the years. The deployment began in 1951 as part of Project "Doodlebug". The air force donated four C-47 Globemaster helicopter gift planes and crews to be used for public services. These planes were then turned into flying museums, providing tours for the community. In 1978, Project "Cockpit" was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the USAF. The gift of two F-14 Tomcats followed in 1986. These jets were used for demonstrations and fly-ins around Tarpon Springs. In 1992, a C-130 Hercules was gifted to residents as part of Operation Christmas Tree II. This plane was used for displays at local airports and also served as a mobile home museum during Christmas time. In 2006,Project Santa Hunt became history when an MD-80 cargojet arrived in Tarpon Springs with 4 aluminum Santas on board. This aircraft had been donated by Texas A&M University's Aggie Airlift Squadron and was flown into Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Lakehurst AFB in New Jersey on behalf of US Military Children's Program (USMCCP). Since its inception, Project Santa Hunt has brought joy to thousands of children across America every year!

The Florida Air National Guard's 1st Tactical Fighter Wing deployed a Gift of Life helicopter fly-past for the Tarpon Springs Airport Memorial Service on Saturday. The aircraft also flew over the Hillsborough County Courthouse to remember former governor Charlie Crist and other local heroes.
