The Tavares Coffee Company was founded in 1912 by Gustavus B. Tavares and his brother, John. The company grew quickly and became one of the leading coffee companies in Florida. In 1916, Gustavus Tavares married Hortense Hebert, who helped to run the company until her death in 1942. The business continued under the direction of Gustavus' wife until her death in 1951. The company eventually passed through several ownership changes before it came into being as a cooperative enterprise in 1978.
Tavares, Florida is a small town in Citrus County, Florida. The population was 5,748 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Hollywood metropolitan area. Tavares is located on State Road 710, just south of US Highway 192 and east of US Highway 19. The town was originally named "Moses Junction" after Moses Moseley who had a store there in 1881. The name changed to Tavares in 1907 when it was incorporated as a village. In 1959, Tavares became an unincorporated community within Citrus County and has remained so since. Tavares is home to two post office buildings: the first built in 1901 and the second built in 1957. The ZIP code for Tavares is 32712. The municipal building that serves as the town hall was completed in 1927 and replaced an earlier structure dating back to 1904 which burned down with all its contents on November 17, 1929. The new building was designed by architects Harry Wiggs and Hemanus Griggs and cost $5,000 to build or purchase cash only residents were able to vote on school board decisions until 1953 when all citizens were allowed to vote through absentee ballot methodologies becoming available following passage of state law No 2-1953 that granted voting rights to women voters statewide effective January 1st, 1954 .

The popularity of coffee quickly spread throughout Italy and other parts of Europe, with peopleBeginning to develop different ways to enjoy this drink. In 1565, Italian mathematician Leonardo Bruni created a filter called a "buzzer", which helped increase the quality of espresso beans. This made it possible for people to enjoy high-quality coffee even while traveling outside of Italy. Coffee also began spreading across the ocean during this time. Portuguese traders discovered Java (now Indonesia) in 1498 and took note of its multiplicity of cassava trees and rich soil when they first visited the area. After tasting Java's unique Coffee Bean variety, they introduced this new discovery back to Portugal, where it continued to be enjoyed by their sailors for many years. Eventually, coffee started flowing into Spain from Portugal and was soon being sold at low prices to Spanish merchants on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. This led to its widespread adoption within Spain as well as other parts of Europe over the next several hundred years. During World War II, coffee was rationed due to shortages caused by allied bombing campaigns; however, it still managed to remain popular among European citizens despite this embargoing behavior

Tavares, Florida was founded in 1824 by Captain George Tavares as a military post on the St. Johns River. In 1827, Captain Tavares and his wife Marthéna founded a small town called Tavares on the east side of the river. The first settler in Tavares was J.J. Boynton, who built a cabin and raised chickens. In 1829, Captain Tavares sold his land to two brothers named John and James Irwin for $1,000 cash. They decided to name their new town after themselves – Irwinville – because they had already discovered one of the most beautiful places in all of Florida: The Everglades National Park right outside of town! TheIrwin brothers were instrumental in developing what is now Tavarese Beach into one of the most popular tourist destinations in all of Florida! They constructed many homes and businesses along State Road 806 which runs through town, including The Gables Hotel & Residence which still stands today! Today, you can find many different types of shops and restaurants lining State Road 806 just beyond The Gables Hotel & Residence – perfect for those warm summer days! But it’s not only business owners that are keeping Tavarese alive; its residents have also made an important contribution to its history! For instance, there is evidence that very early on in its history Tavarese enjoyed some form of religious affiliation… It’s likely that Father José de Jesús Bermudez came to visit the town during this time Period! In fact, he may have even been temple-bound when he arrived hereabouts! And like Father Bermudez before him, many other local members of our community followed suit over time… such as Mrs. Jane Petty who donated land next door to her home for use as a conventical school!! So while some aspects of its culture remain largely unchanged today (e.g., Catholicism), others (e.g., beach volleyball!) continue to thrive thanks to our resident priestly help!!!
Tavares was founded by the Tavares family in 1795. The town became a part of Jacksonville, Florida in 1827. In 1907, it was made a city and the current name came about in 1951 when the city annexed the neighboring towns of Port Charlotte and Sarasota.
