Tavares, Florida is home to the first maga coffee shop in the United States. opened up in 1994 and has been serving up delicious coffee beans since then. The shop has been a part of the community for over 20 years and continues to serve as a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Maga Coffee was started by two friends, Darrell and Pam White. Darrell had always loved working with coffee but never knew how to make it himself. He met Pam at a trade show while she was selling PPKs (peanut butter cups). After talking about their love of coffee, they decided to start their own business together. They named their business Maga Coffee after a term used by Fidel Castro in Cuba: "Maga de la Nación". The original store was located on University Drive near Gainesville Boulevard. It quickly became known as one of Tavares's most popular places for local residents and tourists to stop by for breakfast or drinks during lunchtime or evening hours. In addition, maga coffee fans from around the Tampa Bay area would come visit this shop during those early days when internet cafés were not yet common place in town. Eventually, the store moved out into its current location on College Boulevard just outside of Tavares' downtown district – making it one of only two maga coffee shops left in mainland Florida! And even though there are now multiple locations throughout the state, University Drive remains as home base for maga coffee lovers everywhere! -Maga Coffee began operations on Jan 11994; indoor/outdoor café open since Dec 1994 -Store relocated from University Drive eastward onto College Boulevard in 1995 -Darrell & Pam White founded Maga Coffee with initial intent to sell PPKs only; later turned into full-fledged café with espresso beverages -In 2007, maga cafe reopened under new ownership which included 3 additional espresso machines including an automatic milk frother "Maga de la Nación" remains Tavares' signature cafes name today
