In 1868, Tavares Coffee opened its first grocery store and began to sell coffee concentrate and other products. In 1944, Tavares Coffee became a subsidiary of Jardine’s Ltd., which bought out two other companies in the coffee business. Today, Tavares Coffee produces some of the most popular brands in Florida - Joe's Coffee, Maxwell House, Caravan Estate Blend, Pina Colada Sunrise blend - as well as specialty blends like their own Brazilian K-Cup style coffee called "Largo" . In 2000, Tavares' population numbered just 77 people; it has since shrunk to 30 residents today
