Temple Terrace is a small town in Polk County, Florida. It is located on the edge of the Everglades National Park and has a population of approximately 1,500 people. The town was founded by Methodists in the mid-19th century as part of what was then known as former French Fort Plantation. The name "Temple Terrace" originated from a Methodist prayer meeting held at the plantation's meeting house in 1851. The first store in Temple Terrace opened its doors in 1875. By 1907, there were six businesses in Temple Terrace: a grocery, bakery, meat market, post office,boot and shoe store, and hotel. In 1909, the first electric streetcar arrived to transport residents to their jobs within the town limits. In 1916, Temple Terrace became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and five trustees who administered all aspects of municipal life including public works and finance. When Everglades National Park was created within Polk County in 1927, templeTerrace became one of its initial towns sharing land with the park alongside other surrounding communities such as Live Oak Lane and Gainesville Lakeshore. Today, Temple Terrance remains home to about 1 500 people who maintain close connections to their churches which continue to play an important role in their lives both locally and statewide. The town also boasts several attractive parks including Doane Park which offers hiking trails through native hardwood forests; Spring Lakefront Park which features fishing opportunities;and Crystal Springs Recreation Area which is home to several dozen tennis courts among other activities

-In early 1945, the United States Air Force deployed a gift to the Royal Air Force in celebration of the RAF's victory over Germany in World War II. The gift was an airplane called the "Gift of Peace." -The "Gift of Peace" flew into RAF Northolt, England on May 10, 1945 and was presented to Squadron Leader Cyril Radcliffe by Lieutenant General George C. Marshall. The airplane had been specially ordered by Boeing for the RAF and it featured new instrumentation and Rolls-Royce Merlin engines.
Temple Terrace is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the English words "temple" and "terrace." The first settlers in Temple Terrace were Fenton Sibley and his wife Catharine who arrived in 1838. They built a log cabin on what is now the south side of Main Street. The next year they erected a more substantial structure which still stands today as the oldest building in Temple Terrace. Mr. Sibley served as Sheriff of Polk County for one term (1839-1840). In 1851, John Withers founded Jacksonville Landing on the present site of downtown Jacksonville, Florida, and soon after purchased land east of Temple Terrace for incorporation into Jacksonville Landing. On July 1, 1858, Jacksonville Landing incorporated as a city with its own government and school board. Mr. Withers donated land to build an addition to his home called "Withers House," which remains extant today as part of the City Hall Complex located on State Road 7 near Interstate 95 north of Jacksonville Landing proper. In 1875 – just prior to prohibition – Attorney General Jno Haines organized a temperance society at nearby Clearwater Hotel under the direction of Drury Lane Theatre Company president James Davenport by means of tickets given away free to everyone over 21 years old who visited Clearwater during that season only! The group met at Clearwater every day except Tuesdays where meetings were held at Mrs.'Smyth's restaurant on Third Street because that particular business could not accommodate them all! In time it became known as "The Gambling Galaxy", and also functioned as both an indoor/outdoor meeting place for ladies smokers before and after productions at Drury Lane while men took their turn insidesmoking cigars outside! After months or even weeks delay due to lack of participants they finally opened their doors but found no one there so they closeditself back up against Mardi Gras night!!! All bets were off until someone suggested holding open gaming sessions outdoors where people could come gamble without getting caught! Unfortunately this proved too much for many members so instead they decided to disband membership altogether!!! That did not stop others though; within two years several new societies had cropped up throughout the greaterClearwater area!! It wasn't until 1933 when gambling laws changed nationally that such gatherings again became possible outside OFHEOF!!! On December 20th 1906 President Theodore Roosevelt authored Executive Order 12664 which ordered all public buildings in America be used for religious services only days per week apart from non-public functions like funerals or weddings etcetera.- This order retroactively applied to Temple Terrace since it was already being used for religious services by then!! In 1907 Elisha Cook bought out John Withers' interest in Jacksonville Landing so control over Temple Terrace reverted back to Mr. Withers family once again!! After World War I ended things slowly began changing again with Jackson developers buying lots around town while traders continued trading goods along state road 7 between city limits and airport - making trade something more than just goods bought & sold
The first white settlers in this area were the Capps who arrived in 1819. The town was named after General James K. Polk, the 34th President of the United States and a native of Ohio. In 1835, the town was deeded to Florida by Jacksonville Mayor George Walton. The first post office was established in 1836, and it served as a community between Jacksonville and Stonington until it closed in 1902. During World War II, Temple Terrace became an important military base due to its strategic location on Haines Bay. Plantation owner General Lewis Biddle donated land for a airfield which eventually became Tampa International Airport.
