Temple Terrace, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Daytona Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1903 by Methodist missionaries and is named after Mount Temple, which stands near the town's center. The original settlers were Methodists from South Carolina and Georgia who arrived on horseback. They built a log cabin and began to grow crops. In 1907, they moved to their current location, on what is now the southeast corner of Temple Terrace Road and State Road 593. A post office was established in 1909, and residents continue to use that name to this day. In 1925, the first school opened in Temple Terrace with nine students. In 1928, an addition was added; it became known as School #2 because it served both public schools and private homes until 1959 when it became School #3A which still serves today as one of the only schools serving Temple Terrace today! In 1947, two new churches were built: First Congregational United Methodist Church (later Redeemer Presbyterian) on Southeast Boulevard and Stonington Baptist Church on Northwest Boulevard just north of Interstate 495/US 301 interchange (now US 192). Both churches are still active today! The growth of nearby Kissimmee led to more people moving into Temple Terrace over time – this trend continued until about 2000 when there began a decrease in population size due to various factors including economic recession etc., although there has been recent growth back up again due primarily to development around I-4 corridor east of town along Tempe Boulevard (just east of Interstate 495), which has provided jobs for many residents hereabouts! In 1922,achecame into being when it became part of the new city limits. A year later, it changed its name to Temple Terrace after then-Mayor John Denton donated $5,000 for its current name. It has been said that Temple Terrace is named after two separate General Grant battles fought near Gainesville during the American Civil War: Battle of Gainesville (1862) and Battle of Sabine Pass (1865).
