In the early 1900s, Temple Terrace was a small frontier town in Polk County, Florida. It boasted only a few hundred residents and was home to some of the first coffee shops in the area. The town's first coffee shop, Joe's Coffee House, opened in 1901. As coffee became more popular throughout Florida and the Southeast, Joe's quickly became one of the most well-known and respected cafes in the area. The popularity of coffee led to an increase in demand for beans from local farms. By 1907, Joe's had acquired its own farm and started supplying both Temple Terrace and surrounding towns with their famous beans. In 1916, Joe's moved from its original location on Third Street into what is now known as the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Building on First Avenue near Second Street. This building still stands today as one of Temple Terrace’s iconic landmarks. During World War II,Joe’s became involved inthe war effort by providing goods and services to military members stationed at various bases around central Florida. After the war ended, Joe’s continued to provide quality beans and espresso products to soldiers and civilians alike until his death in 1984. In addition to his business partner Harry Schultz (founder of Starbucks),Joe’s left behind an estate that continues to support many talentedlocal people who continue making great coffee today at Joe’s Café located on First Avenue near Second Street – including current CEO Alex Kotler!

Temple Terrace, Florida is a census-designated place located in Polk County, Florida. As of the 2010 census, its population was 8,906. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The name means "holy ground." Temple Terrace was so named because it was the site of a Baptist church that first met there in 1853. The town began as a small cluster of homes near the intersection of US 1 and SR 914. In 1893, local residents erected a frame Methodist Church on what is now known as Temple Terrace Boulevard. The church served until 1955 when it burned down. In 1966, another frame Methodist church was built on First Street in town - this one lasted until 1984 when it too came down due to arson. In nearby Bartow County, residents established the towns of Timber Creek and Gadsden in 1892 and 1926 respectively; both towns were incorporated with their own governments but were merged into TempleTerrace in 1955. However, due to lack of economic growth within Temple Terrace or within any other section thereof outside Polk County (or even within Polk County itself), most activity ceased within the community by 1970; only occasional services are still held there today (most recently on Memorial Day Weekend). As seen from Interstate 95 southbound approaching town from eastbound I-95: There are few dwellings remaining today that would have been visible from I-95 at any time before 1970; all but two buildings are original frame structures dating back to those years which stand alone among all these residences without apparent successors or replacements over time...the only indication that anything existed at all prior to this date can be found at least six miles northward along State Road 914 where an unincorporated community called Bend had been established by 1918...This stretch of highway looked much more like an open country preserve than typical high-density urban development seen elsewhere along I-95 during this period...It should also be noted that since then several businesses have taken up residence inside present day Temple Terrace limits - including a funeral home and hair salon - providing some measure of continuity between old and new residents despite their individual contributions to different eras...

Temple Terrace is a small town in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Temple Terrace was Denton Sowell who arrived in 1837. The town was founded by James Fenton and his wife Emma in 1892 as a result of land speculation by their father-in-law, Elisha Halliday. The town's name may be derived from nearby Indian War battlefields: Temple Hill and Fort Moultrie were both battlegrounds during the First Seminole War (1829-1835), while Fort Pickens served as a post during the Second Seminole War (1899-1902). In 1907, it became one of seventeen towns created within Duval County when it was separated from Hillsborough County. In 1933, Temple Terrace annexed the neighboring village of Hampton Roads to become its own municipality. In 1934, it amalgamated with neighbouring town of Lighthouse Point to form the current municipality of Temple Terrace/Lighthouse Point. In 1951, Temple Terrace joined with adjacent communities of Jacksonville to form Jacksonville Landing which had an estimated population of 100,000 people at its peak in 1990. As more people moved into Jacksonville and away from downtown areas acrossDuval County - including Temple Terrace - economic stagnation set in and eventually lead to bankruptcy for Landing businesses in 1998; however redevelopment has reinstated much business activity since then. The original homes on this corner lot date back to 1837 when Denton Sowell settled here following his purchase of 640 acres southeast of present day Jacksonville proper on Deception Island off Clearwater Bayou (now known as Everglades National Park). These lands were given to him free by Spanish Governor Manuel de Gualdiz y Menocal after they were ceded to Spain by Miami Arawak Chief Cano II following their victory over Spanish forces at Battle Of La Hacienda de la Vieja Key on February 9th 1638 near present day TampaBay shoreline east side Harbor Light House! There are also reports that another early settler named John Doherty may have landed here some time prior too! Today many still live around these streets like Drifting Sands Apartments just north east on High Street overlooking busy Interbay Boulevard ! All 3 families once lived here together & shared common water source but due to sewage problem we all left & bought new home about 2 miles away where our family still lives today! What an interesting story not often told about old timers like us who made big contributions right before our time!) Denton Sowell’s contemporary George Lawton came along soon afterwards (& probably built house #1) making this corner property one central point around which development quickly took place – witness Significantly Built Schoolhouse now standing east side next door 12 years later (dated 1775!), Baptist Church built that same year (& now facing west towardsInterbay Boulevard) – courthouse & jail being erected soon thereafter (date unknown) – several stores opened up including Joplin’s Meat Market northeast side opposite sign still standing today 4 years later “the birthplace of Jaguars football team” according some sources! All this growth going on without any local government or planning involved would seem very unique indeed! But progress does go On folks…) James Fenton purchased additional land east of present day Jacksonville proper between False Creek Lagoon and Pinellas Bayou in 1839 becoming one with what would become called today’s Duval County…and this initial settlement continued until 1840 when Fenton sold all his holdings including Temple Terrace back to James Halliday Sr., father-in-law and namesake behind Elisha Halliday Land Company which began developing this area into what we know today….ElishaHalliday becoming proprietor with lots numbered 1 thru 9 located just southwest corner intersection current street address…..TempleTerrace incorporated as a borough under state charter effective 7/1/1892…. The first white settler in the area was George C. Smith, who moved to Temple Terrace in 1839. The area became a part of Seminole County in 1841. A cotton gin and machine shop were built here in 1865 by John W. Hays, and the town name changed to Melbourne in 1896. In 1915, the county seat moved to Gainesville, Florida after being re-established as a county seat within Seminole County following the Purchase of Florida from Spain. In 1925, Pinellas County was created from Seminole and Miami Counties; it included much of what is now Temple Terrace as well as most of Melbourne. In 1928, Pinellas merged with Lee County to form Polk County; this included much of what is now Temple Terrace and most of Melbourne again. In 1959, Polk County disbanded and all its land was combined with Volusia County to form Flagler County; this includes much of what is now Temple Terrace and most of Melbourne again.
