Temple Terrace, Florida is a small town located in Monroe County, Florida. The population was 1,253 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The town was founded by Methodist missionaries in 1881 and named for their founders, Rev. George Temple and Dr. Samuel Terrace. The first school in Temple Terrace was built on what is now the corner of Northwest Highway and Academy Boulevard. In 1903, a new elementary school was built on Academy Boulevard across from the old high school; it served as the town's only educational institution until 1959 when an addition to that building became middle school. In 1927, an irrigation system was installed in Temple Terrace to supply water to farmers in nearby Monroe County and helped make it one of the most agriculturally productive towns in Monroe County; this system remains in use today (and has been increased since). The post office opened in 1907 and closed its doors in 1961; however, the name "TempleTerrace" still appears on many local buildings including community centres, churches and businesses. According to the 2010 US Census there were 1,253 people residing in Temple Terrace: 296 males (51%) and 287 females (49%). The median income for a household reported $40,313 with 41% of households earning over $50K/year while 25% earned less than $25K/year. The racial makeup of Temple Terrice according to this report remained mostly white but had some black residents as well as Hispanics which totaled 3%. Males made up 57% of all households while females accounted for 43%. Of those making under $25K per year only 2% did so while 38% reported incomes over $75K/year; 5% were above 100%, meaning they earned more than one million dollars per year! A total of 9 out of 10 employed residents worked full-time outside their homes with 63% reporting working at least 20–24 hours/week regardless of pay or benefits received from government programs such as Medicare or Medicaid whereas just 27% locals worked 40+ hours/week outside their homes without receiving any benefits whatsoever! While these percentages might seem low given that most people engage fully inside their homes more often anyway they do reflect fairly typical American workers behavior when compared to other developed countries like Great Britain or Germany where 50-60 % employees work long hours even if paid below minimum wage levels regularly! Temple Terrace is a town in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 992 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-Hillsborough-Lakeland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Temple Terrace" is derived from a post office called Temple that was established in 1851 and closed in 1954. The first settlers in what would become Temple Terrace were two families from Georgia who arrived on horseback in 1841. A store and school were built soon after, and by 1847 there were also four houses and eleven acres (4 ha) of land surveyed and purchased by Thomas Pyle. In 1851, the post office named Temple was opened, and it remained open until 1954. In 1893, a group of men led by John Sweeny bought 1/4 acre (0.22 ha) of property east of Main Street for $300 to build a cotton gin. The new cotton gin became one of Tampa's most importanteconomic engines during the late 1800s and early 1900s. By 1907, it had produced over 150,000 bales of cotton . During World War II, local production helped make Tampa one of the top military contributors to Allied war effort because much of the city's housing was requisitioned as barracks or storage space for munitions plants
The first people to live on the property were Indian slaves. The name "Temple Terrace" was given to the land by General Andrew Jackson in 1837. The first house on the lot was built by Colonel John Taylor in 1839. In 1865, a Methodist church was built on the site and it still exists today.
