The National Guard may be called up for duty in times of war or national emergency, but its primary purpose is to provide law and order in the aftermath of a natural or man-made disaster. In 1938, the National Guard was authorized to include officers and enlisted men from state militias as well. Since then, the National Guard has grown into one of the most powerful militia forces in America. There are more than 700,000 active duty members and 1 million reservists among the nearly 3 million civilians who serve in the Guards. The Guardsman often perform tasks unique to their branch of service such as law enforcement, forestry, search and rescue, public works, medical relief and protection from crime. The role of the National Guard has changed over time but its mission remains the same: To protect our citizens and property from harm by any means necessary.

The Guard has been present in Temple Terrace since 1912 and currently comprises over 11,000 soldiers and sailors.
Temple Terrace is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,724 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–St Petersburg metropolitan area. The Temple Terrace Civic Center is a complex that includes a movie theater and multiple gift shops. The first settlement in what is now Temple Terrace was made by members of the Quaker family on May 21, 1819 when they founded Wacoalaca (later named Coon's Creek). They named their community "New Jerusalem" after receiving an invocation from John Wesley during his visit to the area two years earlier. In 1820, Judge James Hance laid out central business district which included present day Temple Terrace and developed other properties north as far as US-1. In 1892, American Telephone Company built its first telephone pole in what is now downtown Temple Terrace and began service to local businesses. In 1907, State Road 3 was completed linking Jacksonville with St Petersburg; this allowed easy access to both cities for businessmen and farmers alike. As commerce grew along State Road 3, so did social activities within the small town - such as dances at the Masonic Lodge or picnics outdoors on beautiful weekends like Fourth of July. By 1925 there were over 100 businesses in downtown Temple Terrace employing more than 350 people employed by all sectors of society including agriculture, manufacturing and transportation; many families still reside within walking distance of their establishments today! In 1951 several homes around town were damaged by Hurricane Forster while Corpus Christi was under attack from Hurricane Ike; these homes were replaced with new structures throughout much of Talbot County following Ike's landfall causing extensive damage across most parts of Texas but not Tampa Bay where much remained standing! On October 17th 1959 a tornado touched down just east of downtown Temple Terrance leaving destruction all around including several homes destroyed along with widespread power outages! After touching down just short of Main Street it quickly lifted off into northeastern fields before making its way towards I-75west near Clearwater Beach before eventually dissipating northeast again near Taylorsville! This became one of only three tornadoes to touch down in Polk County that year...the others being an EF3 tornado that struck northwest Tallahassee on November 14th and an F5 tornado that struck southeast Pensacola on November 26th!! Eddie Burch also played baseball for the New York Yankees from 1939-1945 scoring 892 runs batting .287/.359/.521

Temple Terrace is a small town located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1882 by Methodist Episcopal missionaries as a mission station for Indian traders and Seminole slaves. Temple Terrace has been home to many prominent people including philanthropist Andrew Carnegie and businessman Edward Hutton Jr.. It also played host to President Dwight Eisenhower in his inauguration speech on January 20, 1961; he made his first public appearance in this community that year. A number of high-rise buildings were built here during the 1920s and 1930s such as One hundred and eighty-six (186) South Street which still stands today as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Temple Terrace thanks to its architecture and interesting features like its Neo-Gothic style exterior façade, turrets, pinnacles, spires and period details like Moorish Revival door handles. In recent decades much development has taken place around the town center with new businesses sprouting up all over central business district starting with restaurants followed by medical offices then higher end retailers until now there are several dozen new apartment buildings completed or under construction along with more than 30 acres of parkland that offers excellent views of downtown Jacksonville from many different locations throughout the day
Temple Terrace, Florida was founded by Captain James A. Haley in 1892. The town was originally called "Haleyville" and changed its name to Temple Terrace in 1896. The town is a census-designated place (CDP) and has a population of 5,719 as of the 2010 census.
