Temple Terrace is a small village in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Temple Terrace" was given to the community by General James K. Polk in 1892 as a way of honoring members of his family who had served in the Mexican-American War and also in President George Washington's Army during the Spanish-American War. It was first settled by Methodists on what are now private property within the town limits of Temple Terrace. The first church services were held there on October 15, 1892. The present congregation began worshiping there on January 6, 1913. The land for Temple Terrace was acquired from Captain John Sneath in 1865 by Drury and Company who built a cabin on it which they named "Cabin No. 2". In 1875 Colonel John Dillard purchased some more land from Captain Sneath and soon after laid out streets and blocks for his new Village which he called "Dillardville". In 1915 A&P supermarket opened up shop near Park Road then closed down due to strikes that year; it reopened about two years later with new owners but closed again in 1978 when A&P left town because they did not like how things were going there especially with competition from Walmart nearby (Walmart has since moved out). A post office operated at Temple Terrace from 1912 to 1916; it was changed to its current name after General James K Polk's visit to that area in February 1893. On May 12, 1898 Wacoal Tire & Rubber Co., Inc., became the first company ever incorporated in Polk County when its incorporation papers were filed at this location under the name "Wacoal Tire & Rubber Co." It continued until 1935 when it merged with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., becoming Goodyear-Wacoal Tire & Rubber Co., Incorporated (GWTCO). On July 1, 1957 Kimball Mfgs., Incorporated (KMMI) took over operations of Wacoal TIRE CO.; however GWTCO continued as an independent company until 1979 when it merged with Gulf Oil Corporation to form Gulf Oil Corporation-Goodyear Tires and Rims Corp.(GOCR) which continued as an independently owned company until 1984 when it merged into Chrysler Group plc.-Chrysler Motorsports LLC.(CHRYSLERGROUP). On December 9th 1998 GM announced their intentions to sell their entire business including Chrysler Group plc.-Chrysler Motorsports LLC-(CHRYSLERGROUP) back to Dodge Trucks/Inland Revenue Service for $5 billion dollars making them one large automotive manufacturer once again! This event marked the end of an era for American manufacturing! This move symbolicized another step forward for globalization where multinational companies could operate side by side within our borders without fear of antitrust action!

Temple Terrace is a small town in Polk County, Florida, lying on the edge of the Everglades National Park. It was named for The Methodist Episcopal Temple in nearbyFort Myers. The first permanent residents of the area were white traders and farmers who called it "Everetown." A post office was established at Everetown in 1876, and by 1902 there were twenty-four residents. Growth stalled until 1912 when a sawmill was built near Temple Terrace to provide jobs for local citizens. In 1916, a phosphate mine opened up and began to produce phosphate rock; this led to increased development around the town. By 1930, there were over 100 people living in the community. The economy of Temple Terrace changed dramatically after World War II when military families moved into the area because of access to land and resources that had been reserved for civilian use. Development continued through the 1950s and 1960s as new housing was erected along with businesses such as an auto dealership, grocery store, church, doctor's office, motel and more. Growth stopped again during the 1970s as industry shifted from agriculture to manufacturing; however, there has been recent growth throughout the past few years thanks to new investments in tourism and business development opportunities within proximity to Interstate 10/U.S. 1
