The area that now makes up Titusville was first settled by European immigrants in the mid-19th century as part of what would become known as the "Old World" section of Tampa Bay. By 1860, most of what would form Titusville had been annexed to St Petersburg. In 1872, a post office called “Titusville” was established in response to an inquiry from residents along US 98 asking for information about their location. The town's nameadopted from nearby Mount Pleasant (now Winter Park) which had been named after George Washington's Mount Vernon home in Virginia. In 1905, when Tampa became a city, it annexed much of Pinellas County including Titusville and other communities east of Interstate 95 near Clearwater Beach and west of Manatee County near Sarasota

Titusville is a town in Leon County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,854 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kissimmee–Hollywood, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Titusville is located on State Road 441 east of Orlando and north of Clearwater. The first settler in Titusville was Jerald Hensley in 1892. In 1924, the name change to honor General George Washington Titus after he donated land for a military airfield near Titusville. During World War II, Titusville served as a training center for USAAF bombers during their attacks on Japan. After the war, the community became an agricultural center with cotton production becoming its mainstay until 2000 when oil exploration began making Titusville an important economic development. The town's rich history can be found through its various local museums and artifacts dating back to before Florida was admitted into the Union as a state in 1837. One such artifact is an old cannon that sits outside of the old courthouse which dates back to 1798 when it belonged to Colonel James Robertson who built Fort Brooke along Lake Volusia on what is now SR 441 in present day Titusville. Another interesting relic from early days are pioneer bricks that can still be seen throughout many homes and businesses today including one cast inside of a post office building which once stood on Asbury Avenue just northwest of downtown Titusville In 1840s two brothers by the name of Pritchard settled down around what is now SR 441 northeast of downtown (now Floridians Parkway) and ran a sawmill until it caught fire in 1851 destroying most if not all evidence left behind from that period including tools used by those working at the mill - something very unusual for that time period! In 1865-1868 four brothers by the name of Phillips purchased 448 acres hereabouts east/northwest of downtown (later known as North County Rd 421) beginning development towards what would become today’s city limits! Owning almost all contiguous land within today’s city boundaries at this time they were some thereof one among many pioneers who drove much later – but certainly did so starting with this initial purchase! Their heirs continue to own large portions within City Limits to this day & continue developing our great city we know today! In 1898 Drury Bros., druggists opened up their store across from Frontier Field Arena which functioned continuously until 1975 when it closed due toumbing problems caused by high levels of lead intake resulting from then new nickelodeon TV sets being produced there at that time! That same year also saw another big milestone for Downtown: First Streetlights were installed following approval from then Mayor John Madden (& others) allowing business districts within Downtown greater visibility & easier access evening hours!! That entire street renovation project took place between 1998-2000!!! Today Second Street continues westward leading directly into Downtown !! Just past current day Enterprise St will define Downtownites’ only entrance/exit onto 2nd Street proper since 3rd has been closed off due to injury concerns associated with heavy vehicular traffic passing thru there daily!! The economy has always been based heavily upon agriculture&oil exploration particularly since 2000 when oil exploration began making Titusvill
