Titusville is a small town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Titusville is located on State Road A1A north of Kissimmee and south of downtown Orlando. The community was founded by pioneers in 1892 as a farmstead called "Lemon Grove". In 1924, Lemon Grove was renamed "Titusville" after General Titus Scott who fought in the American Civil War. The first settlers were John and Emma Pritchett from England. They came to Florida in 1849 and started a citrus orchard and plantation near what is now Ironwood Road (U.S. Route 4) east of present-day Titusville. By 1925, the Pritchett family had bought more land adjacent to their property and built a new home there which became known as "The General's House". On October 7, 1926, general George Custer died during an Indian campaign in Oklahoma Territory when his horse collapsed near Fort Sill; it was posthumously recognized that he had been killed in action when his body was found two weeks later on October 14 by members of the 8th Cavalry Regiment while they were patrolling through northwestern Oklahoma Territory on their way to winter quarters at Fort Berthier near Norman (now Tulsa). In 1933, local farmers organized themselves into what became known as the Farmers' National Bank and removed all cash machines from their businesses so that they could focus on agriculture instead of speculation with commercial banks like JB Hunt & Co., which had become dominant since World War I thanks to government subsidies for agricultural production. After years of dedication by its founders – most notably president Willis Halsey – FNBA remains one of Floridas leading rural banks still operative today with branches throughout central Florida including Titusville and parts of Osceola County west of Lake Okeechobee "The General's House", then known as simply "The Bank", served as headquarters until 1960 when it burned down due to arson within days following President Kennedy's assassination in Dallas; this event also left behind a lasting legacy forFNBA with its headquarters rebuilt just beyond the boundaries where it once stood before being moved again in 1996 inside what is now Town Center mall across from Job Corps training center That same year saw another significant milestone for FNBA when it merged with First National Bank (later JB Hunt) forming one major banking corporation which continues operations today under several name changes including Citibank/First National Bankshares Inc., Citizens Financial Group plc., Fifth Third Bancorp., Marcuson Financial Corporation et al.. Titusville is a small community in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Bridgeport Metropolitan Statistical Area. Titusville was founded in 1892 by farmers John and Anna Titus as a cattle ranch on the east side of Kissimmee Lake. The name "Titusville" was derived from an old English name for the area now known as Titus Park. In 1923, two brothers named George and Harry bought land around what is now town square and began to develop it into a small town with their own grocery store, post office, blacksmith shop, Methodist church and school. They named their new town after Augustus Ewing Jr., one of their early customers at the store. When they died in 1933, their sons took over management of the business until 1984 when it was sold to businessman Milton Weisman who renamed it Weisman's Farmers Market Place Inc.. In 1990, phosphate mine owner Manuel Gomez transferred ownership of the mine to his son-in-law Ricardo Fuentes which led to growing concerns about health risks posed by heavy mining activity around the plant; Titusville became an official ghost town during this time The first schools in Titusville were built in 1922: one for students attending Stonington School District (later absorbed into Pinellas County) on West Clay Street near downtown and another for children from nearby Ensley School District on East Elm Street near Lakeside Drive. A third school opened in 1928 but burned down soon after due to faulty wiring. In 1932, construction began on what is now University Avenue Elementary School which functioned as both a school and community center until 1963 when it was replaced by Central High School which still occupies that building today In 1949 Ridge Middle/High School opened which served residents of Southeast Polk County before eventually being merged into Palm Beach County Schools in 2003 In 1984 Miami-Dade Community College opened its doors here with classes serving students from Northwest Broward County including Titusville itself TitusVILLE has been home to several professional teams since its incorporation as a town: The South Florida Marlins (now Tampa Bay Rays), American Football League’s Jacksonville Jaguars (now Jacksonville Jaguars), National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lightning (now Tampa Bay Lightning), Floridian water polo team Atlantis (now USFWS Florida Gators) etc... In 1992 Titans Stadium—home of NFL’s Buccaneers—opened north of downtown where local high school football games have been played ever since The Stadium hosted Super Bowl XXXVII back in 2002 As part of efforts to revive economy following national recession some businesses decided not open up or close because they didn't make much money anymore such as JCPenney(closed 2009), IBM(closed 2007) Hooters(closed 2006) etc... After numerous protests by locals and even threatened lawsuits various attempts were made starting with revamping traffic laws so that more jobs would be created within city limits through creating incentives like tax breaks or free parking but no success has been seen yet
Titusville was founded in 1859 by Captain Josiah Gregg and his family. The town was named after General Titus, who fought in the American Revolution. In 1865, General Andrew Johnson visited the town and decided to move the United States capital from Philadelphia to Washington D.C. The town grew rapidly thereafter and by 1880, it had over 1,000 residents. In 1915, Titusville became a city and has since grown into a major center for creative arts and commerce.
