The Coast Guard Auxiliary of Wellington, Florida was organized on December 1, 1942. At its inception the Auxiliary had three purposes: to provide support for the military in World War II; to maintain law and order on the Gulf Coast; and to promote tourism in the area. The Auxiliary has grown over time and now serves as a vital community resource. Gold Star Awards are given annually to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the Coast Guard Auxiliary of Wellington, Florida. These awards recognize individuals who have dedicated their lives to serving our country and helping others through service as a member of our auxiliary. We are proud to offer these prestigious awards and appreciate each individual’s dedication. In 2007 we were awarded with an award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). This prestigious award is given annually by ASCE recognizing excellence in civil engineering services provided by members of the auxiliary throughout their careers. The recipient is typically honored at an event where they speak about their work with members of the public and other professionals involved in civil engineering matters. In addition, we were also honored with this distinction at another event held by ASCE earlier this year which was attended by local representatives from various government organizations including law enforcement agencies as well as business partners from across town!

The Coast Guard has been providing service to the Wellington community since 1892. In 1912, the Coast Guard Station was established in Wellington and it continues to provide patrols and security for the area today. The station is home to the Senior Reserve Officers’ Training School which offers advanced training for reserve officers from all over Florida.
Wellington, Florida is a small town located in Citrus County, Florida. The population was 1,546 at the 2000 census. Wellington is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1871 by Captain George Wellman and his family. It became a municipality in 1907. In 1925, it merged with Sanford to form the City of Sanford. In 1959, it annexed Clermont Beach. In 1984, it seceded from Sanford and joined the City of Orlando as one entity. In 2003, it merged with Kissimmee to form the City of Kissimmee-Orlando proper. The village of Wellington was incorporated in 2007 and has since declined in popularity due to its small size and lack of services compared to larger cities such as Orlando or Sanford

The Coast Guard gift history begins with the creation of the Coast Guard in 1917. The Coast Guard was created as a result of Congress’s decision to respond to America’s rapidly growing coastline. At its inception, the Coast Guard had only six officers and fifty-six enlisted sailors. To help support its mission, the Coast Guard began purchasing gifts from civilians and businesses alike in order to commemorate their time on Earth. From mugs and t-shirts to bicycles and radios, the Coast Guard has given many people throughout history a piece of their memory.
When the first European colonists arrived in Florida in the late 17th century, they were met with much hostility and resistance. The area was inhabited by Native Americans, who viewed them as invaders. The British were more welcoming of these new arrivals, and soon began to build their own settlements in what is now Wellington. In 1821, a group of Englishmen led by Captain George Smith landed on what is now Pensacola Beach and founded Fort Brooke on the beach. This was the first permanent European settlement in Florida. In 1829, Governor John Thornton established a fort at Stonington on the mainland opposite Jacksonville. This allowed for easier commerce and communication between Britain and America. The area around Wellington became known as landowning society because of its prominent landowners: many of whom continued to live there after moving to other parts of Florida or leaving the state for various reasons. Many famous people lived here during this time: including American Presidents James Kenedy (1828-1835) and Andrew Jackson (1845-1848). After being abandoned by its original owners in 1840, Wellington was acquired by Ackerley & Company, a cotton plantation company based in Savannah Georgia. After some struggles, Ackerley & Company eventually succeeded in developing it into one of the most prosperous areas of Florida during Reconstruction Era (1868-1912). However, following World War II, Wellington declined economically due to increased competition from other areas withinFlorida; however, it has since begun to rebound thanks to development projects such as an urban riverwalk that opened up around downtown last year.
In 1881, the first white settlers in Wellington,Florida arrived. The town was named for Sir John Wellington, 1st Viscount Wellesley who served as Commander-in-Chief of British forces during the American Civil War. In 1892, the first post office was established in Wellington and it remained in operation until 1957. In 1903, a school was built and it remains in use to this day. In 1915, the first railroad tracks were laid through Wellington and it continued to be used until 1971. From 1925 until 1941, Wellington had a local government which included a mayor and five council members. In 1951, however, the town became an unincorporated community and has been since then an unincorporated area within Polk County.
