The Air Force Deployed Gift History Project is a unique and ongoing effort by the Air Force to document the history of airmen and their gifts to other members of the military. The project began in 1999 and has since collected over 1,500 items from across the United States military. The project’s website provides a wealth of information on each gift, including where it originated, when it was given, who received it and what they used it for. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the project and we are excited to share some special updates with you about how things have been going over these past decade. In 2000, Air Force Chief Master Sergeant John Rives announced that all deployedift personnel would be able to receive personalized thank-you cards as part of their deployibe treatment. This was an important change because before this system only high-ranking generals or admirals could receive personalized cards. As a result, many enlisted members did not understand why their commanding officer or squadron leader did not get a thank-you card when they returned home from deployment. Thecards were eventually reintroduced in 2006 but due to budget limitations they were only available to commissioned officers instead of airmen/women (E-1 through E-5). One major benefit of having Colonel level access was that commanders could now personally thank airmen for their service by signing off on individual Thank You Cards without having to submit them through centralized channels. To date there have been more than 5,000 individual Thank You Cards issued via this system. Additionally, thanks cards can also be customized with your name or command emblem if desired (this is currently being done with primary duty units). In October of 1951, the United States Air Force deployed a gift-giving unit to West Melbourne, Florida in order to celebrate the city's anniversary. Theift organization purchased and distributed hundreds of presents to citizens over the course of two weeks.
West Melbourne, Florida is a city located in Palm Beach County, Florida. The population was 546 at the 2010 census. The city is named for West Melbourne Place on the west side of Palm Beach. It is one of two cities in Palm Beach County and has a population of over 6,000 residents as of 2018. West Melbourne was founded in 1892 by John H. Weldon and became part of Palm Beach County in 1914. In 1934, it merged with neighbouring Anastasia to form the current City of West Melbourne. In 1988, the city annexed neighboring Plantation and renamed itself West Melbourne Plantation again after annexing Plantation into its municipality. In 2018, Mayor fireplace made an announcement that they would be selling their downtown property to build a new school complex which will house both public and charter schools within walking distance to all residents including small businesses who currently use the alleyways behind the building for parking or storage purposes.
