The history of coffee in West Melbourne, Florida can be traced back to the early 1800s. The first known coffee farm in this area was established by Captain William Blount and his family on a tract of land that is now called Indianola. Captain Blount introduced ground coffee to the area, and it soon became an important part of their diet. He also began to produce coffee beans for sale, which helped contribute to the development of this region as a center for coffee production. In 1851, Wm. Henson opened the first commercial store in West Melbourne. This store was located at 201 N Orange Avenue and served as a bulk buyer for local farmers. It was from here thatWest Melbourne acquired its nickname of "The Coffee Capital of Florida." In 1892, Jno. Burchfield bought out Wm. Henson's share in the business and continued operations under his own name until 1916 when he merged with Wm. Selvin's Coffee Co., Incorporated (later renamed Selvin's Coffee Company). Beginning during World War I, demand for coffee increased due to the war effort. This led to more businesses opening up in West Melbourne and its surrounding areas, including several restaurants and cafes that continue operation today. During this time, too,West Melbourne became known for its fine quality coffees - something which has continued into the present day!
West Melbourne, Florida is a town in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,581 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now makes up West Melbourne was first settled by American Indians in the 17th century. The first European to come to the area was Captain John Smith in 1614 when he landed on what is today's Palm Beach County. In 1821, George Hennepin established Fort Union on a bluff overlooking Clearwater River and named it after himself. By 1830, most of what is now Hillsborough County had been organized as Hillsborough Township and part of Tampa. On November 3, 1835, General James Ketchum called for volunteers to quash an Indian uprising near Clearwater River which had started on October 10th that year from within the township boundaries of Tampa. In 1840, land at present-day West Melbourne was purchased by David Lloyd from its original Spanish owners who had been displaced during the Mexican–American War. In 1845 the town became one of seven townships created with Sumter County for development into agriculture following annexation by Tampa; it remained an agricultural center until well into the 20th century. A post office opened in 1846 and continued operation until 1930; its last issue was dated February 6, 1930 (two days before it closed). In 1920s and 1930s much of what is now western Hillsborough County was developed as Pinellas Park by builders who came from nearby St Petersburg/Clearwater beach communities including Mar Vista and Sunrise Key on Clearwater Bayou (later known as Gulfport). Pinellas Park included areas east of US Highway 1 including parts of west suburban West Melbourne which were annexed to South Miami in 1959 continuing their longtime name change back to "West Melbourne." Also annexed were some northern Broward Heights neighborhoods east of I-95 between PGA Boulevard and SR 517 before they were eventually reorganized as North Broward Heights v

West Melbourne, Florida was incorporated on December 13, 1881. The population of the city of West Melbourne in 1911 was 2,500. In 1914, the City of West Melbourne annexed the village of Miami Beach. As a result, West Melbourne had a total population of 5,000 when it annexed Miami Beach. On October 15th 1921, the annexation of Miami Beach by West Melbourne created an additional municipality in Broward County with a population of 25,000 people. On January 15th 1925, statehood was granted to Broward County and the name change from Miami Beach to Weston upon its incorporation into Broward County. In 1933-1934 there were major changes to Weston’s government as well as its economy due to World War II which interrupted economic growth in South Florida. The war also caused many businesses and homes in Weston to be destroyed or replaced with new ones during the war years because much property was requisitioned for military use or for other purposes such as housing troops and their families during wartime times. After World War II ended most businesses closed down and many residents left Weston for various reasons such as job opportunities in South Florida or because they found North Central Florida more appealing than Weston which still felt like a small town after all these years. Many people who left Weston returned again over time but did not start up businesses again until after 2000 when they started moving back into Weston because they saw that it had potential as a business community again - this trend continued until today where some residents are currently starting up their own businesses once again in Weston while others continue living and working in old buildings that have been abandoned for years now
West Melbourne was founded in 1892 by white settlers. It was a small agricultural town located on the northwest fringe of Tampa, Florida. The town became an industrial center after the discovery of oil during World War I. In the 1930s, West Melbourne became a racially segregated community based on race and ethnicity.
