In 1949, when Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act, the Army Reserve became known as the National Guard. In 1961, Governor Manuel L. Arreaza signed into law a bill that created the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office as a component of the Florida state guard. This bill gave rise to what is now known as "West Palm Beach Police Department". At this time, there were no national guard units in West Palm Beach and all law enforcement functions were handled by sheriff's deputies or county jails. In 1972, Governor Reubens signed into law another bill that changed many aspects of how we handle our national guard troops in West Palm Beach County. This bill created what is now called "National Guard Unit No.(XXX)". The unit was designated to respond specifically to incidents involving militias or paramilitary groups operating within our borders which posed a threat to public safety or political stability. - From 1972-1985, members of "National Guard Unit No.(XXX)" served with distinction on various peacekeeping missions throughout Latin America and Africa responding to insurgencies and terrorism threats against civilian populations

The city of West Palm Beach, Florida is located in the state of Florida and is part of Palm Beach County. The population of West Palm Beach was estimated to be over 188,000 people as of 2010. West Palm Beach was first named after the town in England that had been founded by Sir John Stokes in 1795. In 1868, a group of Miami businessmen purchased land east of the present-day intersection of Collins Avenue and Jupiter Boulevard, which became known as "The Plantation." The name "West Palm Beach" was first used on a business map from 1887. In 1912, construction began on what is now the Pompano Causeway connecting South Florida with North Florida. This roadway separated West Palm Beach from Boca Raton and made it easier for residents to get to their properties across the Causeway. With this new connection came increased traffic and development along the causeway. In 1965, Broward County enacted a law that required municipalities within its boundaries to adopt an election process for mayors and other city officials. This law was designed to ensure that county commissioners were held accountable to local voters instead of being beholden to powerful political interests within the county government. After years of debate, West Palm Beach adopted this policy on November 3rd, 1975. Since 1995, when Mayor Donna Shalala became mayoralty-holder after losing her bid for re-election against then-Commissioner José Colón Neto (D), much has changed about West Palm Beach - both physically and politically! One example would be the switch from an open primaries system during mayoral elections back into closed primaries following Neto's victory in 1998; however this change only lasted until 2002 when Shalala ran again but lost handily due to heavy voter turnout). Another example would be Cuba City becoming part Of WPD; prior to this annexation it had been separate from WPD for all but two instances dating back to 1959 where it amalgamated with neighbouring Boca Raton (then called Coconut Grove).

West Palm Beach, Florida is a city located in the Miami-Dade County area of South Florida. The population was 1,563 at the 2010 census, down from 2,031 at the 2000 census. West Palm Beach is part of Miami-Dade and covers an area of 5 square miles (14 km2). It was founded on December 12th, 1913 by James A. Westphal and his brother John J. Westphal. The original name for the city was "Boca Raton". The cities of Coral Gables and Boca Raton were merged into West Palm Beach in 1965. In 2007, it became one of 15 municipalities within the Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez School District #1 which serves all students in prekindergarten through eighth grade. The first post office opened in 1913 and served as Boca Raton until 1925 when it moved to its present location on North Key Drive. The first school in town was called "Pinecrest" but it closed in 1916 because there were not enough classrooms available for everyone who wanted to attend it! As soon as new land could be purchased or donated (most notably from Driller Petroleum), Pinecrest reopened with new classrooms and a playground! In 1921, James A., Sr., donated land that would become City Park which includes today's downtown neighbourhood including Heritage Place mall and several other buildings that still remain today including Banco de America tower (the tallest building west of Jackson Square) - both are currently being used as office space by various businesses including Marriott International which has leased most of their floors! On January 11th 1924 – just days after incorporation – WPA workers erected a large flagpole in front of City Hall to show support for local government! That same year also saw another big event when WWI veteran Walter Soderbergh donated $5,000 towards beautifying City Park so that people could enjoy its beauty while living close by! With those two major accomplishments under our belt we can say that City Hall & Park were definitely INTENSELY LOVED back then (& still are!) ! After years of hard work put forth by many citizens & employees over the years some amazing things have happened such as: City Hall has been completely renovated 4 times now (!), most recently with brand spanking new glass facade last year!!! Also note how much more open & sleek this newer design makes everything look - something few old buildings can ever boast about nowadays...(Thanks again Walter Soderbergh!) In recent memory: • 1993 - LED lighting installed inside City Hall proper for the first time EVER...showcaseing just HOW MUCH progressivism had come since THAT day back THEN ;) • 2001 - A brand spanking new watermain system built specifically for downtown WC made possible courtesy of then Mayor Leonard Lance...still looks beautiful to this day :) ”
