The United States Army took over military operations from the Navy after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. In early 1942, the USAF was created as a result of this reorganization and became operational under General Dwight Eisenhower’s command. In 1947, General Curtis LeMay activated NATO's Eastern Air Command which was headquartered at West Park until its closure in 1990. In 1949-1950 both Commands were combined to form USAF Central Command under then-Supreme Commander Douglas MacArthur. After MacArthur's death in 1951 Central Command was disbanded and its functions absorbed into Unified commands such as NORAD/Gulfstream I that emerged during the Korean War. West Park is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 10,512 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Ft Lauderdale–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2006, West Park had the second highest median household income in Miami-Dade County after Liberty City. West Park began as a subdivision on Broward Boulevard in Coconut Grove and was developed by one group of developers and then sold to another group who worked on it for many years until they sold it to a third group who finished it and built homes there. It was first called "Lemon Key" because its original owners were citrus farmers from Lemonland,Florida. The name changed again when the city of Coral Gables boughtoons portion of the developments and put up buildings on Lemon Key while residents lived on West Park Blvd. The town has since been annexed into Coral Gables which has resulted in most people moving away from West Park so that their properties can become annexed into Coral Gables or other nearby municipalities where they can still maintain some connection to their old home town but with increased access to amenities within Coral Gables itself such as public transportation which makes it more convenient for people to get around than if they had to drive all the way out to West Park In recent years, interest in returning back to West Park has been increasing due both to its historical significance as well as its current condition which is much improved over what it once was

West Park is a city located in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 10,711 at the 2010 census. It was founded on August 29, 1892 by J.B. Westfall and his wife Julia Morrow as a small farmstead called "Natchez". In 1906, Westfall donated land to the City of Jacksonville for expansion into what would become Jacksonville's first incorporated municipality. On November 5, 1912, Jacksonville incorporation moved West Park from its original location in eastern Duval County to its current location in northwestern Duval County. The land that now makes up West Park was originally part of the massive Everglades National Park which was created by President James K. Polk in 1893-1896 as part of his efforts to create a buffer between the United States and Cuba while under Ulysses S. Grant's presidency. As part of this effort, Polk bought 3 million acres (10 km2) of land east of Tampa Bay and west of Lockhart Lake from Cuban landowners who had purchased it during Spanish rule over Cuba before American annexation in 1898. The purchase included parts of what are now Miami-Dade and Broward counties as well as much of central Florida including downtown Jacksonville and most notably Fort Myers Beach on Jupiter Island within today's unincorporated area known locally as Miracle Mile because so many businesses were located there when it began operations in 1907: Dunkin' Donuts founder Harry Borneman opened his first store there on December 8th, 1907 with two employees - one being cashier Bessie Smith! At that time Jacksonville had only two streets - Commercial Street northbound and Government Street southbound - but future Mayor Jack McGrath helped pave both Streets into present day Midtown Boulevard just east of Center Point Shopping Center! The late 1800s were difficult years forDuval County due to lack of resources and prohibitive taxes levied against farming families such as those who owned large tracts surroundingJacksonville such as those around Nantucket Sound where cattle were raised until 1978 when then Governor Lawton Chiles lifted the ban making Nantucket Sound an open water system once again allowing fishing & hunting opportunities for alligator & Dolphin! In 1886/87 JBDWestfall acquired 640 ac (247 ha) lot #1 opposite Schoolhouse No 2 & 320 ac (147 ha) lot #2 adjoining Schoolhouse No 1 containing 160 yd² (128 m²) W side road leading NW towards Indian River—alluvial fill from Panama Canal Shipwrecks Bluff above mean high water mark; thence NORWesterly along said road across SW portion Of Lot 1 aforesaid to point where said road crossed RIVER; thence easterly along said river bank paralleling said river until point where said bank connected with W side OF LOT 2 aforesaid; thence westerly along said bank to points whence it proceeded easterly to enter RIVER through Tallahassee River Channel; thence entering same near mouth
