West Park is a community in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The community is located on the west side of Overtown and was annexed into the city of Miami in 1958. It had a population of 5,542 as of the 2010 census. The name West Park was chosen for its location on the Western border of Overtown, one block from Flagler Street and two blocks from Biscayne Boulevard. The land that makes up today's West Park was once part of what was known as Spanish Town on Biscayne Boulevard near American Airlines Flight AAL 995 which crashed on November 24, 2003 killing all eighty-four passengers and six crew members. This tragedy solidified the need for a new name for this area as no one wanted to be associated with that terrible memory any longer. In 1957, when Overtown became an incorporated city, it chose to call itself "Miami Beach". However, many residents objected to being called Beachtown because they felt this term implied they were only living in Miami Beach while their homes were in West Park and vice versa. So in 1958, Overtown voted to change its name to "Westpark", after previous names including "Spanish Town" and "Otterville". It wasn't until 1990 when development began at Everglades National Park that Westpark truly began expanding beyond its original boundaries; now it includes much of Midtown Southside within its borders as well! In 1998 it also absorbed adjoining neighborhood of Kendall Square which lies just east of Flagler St., making it home to over 6,000 people! Today there are more than 12K people living within easy reach of both downtown Miami and Everglades National Park - ensuring that everyone has access to plenty of resources regardless of economic status or location!

West Park is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 27,815 at the 2010 census. In 1938, developers bought land adjacent to present-day West Park from Cuban refugees who had been living there since 1902.
