West Park's rich history dates back to 1875 when land was donated by Judge Julius Heinrich Stricker for a new school district in Broward County. The first buildings were erected on what are now streets such as Northwest 54th Street and Southwest 132nd Avenue. In 1915, after annexation by Fort Lauderdale, West Park became part of the city limits of Fort Lauderdale proper. In 1925, West Park voters passed a resolution asking that they be annexed into Hollywood so that they would have access to all public services available in their neighboring municipality; Hollywood refused but agreed not to levy taxes on West Park residents until it received similar benefits from Hollywood authorities. In 1957, when Broward County merged with Miami-Dade County, WestPark became one of six cities within Miami-Dade county and was again annexed into Hollywood proper which then levied taxes on residents of both municipalities without giving them any say in how their money was spent (this arrangement continued until 1993). between 1967 and 1976 (due largely to pressure from developer Bernard Herrmann), WEST PARK passed more than $100 million worth of bonds securing improvements including new schools and roads throughout much of Sunrise Village - areas now known as Central Business Districts (CBDs) because much shopping and dining takes place near central business districts (cities) such as Downtown Miami or South Beach

West Park, Florida is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area and was annexed byMiami in 2013. The history of West Park begins with Spanish settlement in the early 1800s. A mission founded by Father José María Rivera was located in what is now West Park during this time. In 1835, a group of English settlers named themselves "The Pioneers" after acquiring land from the Creek people east of Fort Lauderdale. They built a log cabin on what is now Northwest Sixth Street and called it "Pioneer's Grove." The English name changed to West Park when they acquired more land to build their plantation there including parts of today's neighborhoods of Midtown South and Overtown North (now known as Overtown East). In 1838, Captain John Houghton established an American trading post at present day Northeast First Street and Northwest Third Avenue which served as the center for commerce for southeastern Miami-Dade County. By 1840, sugarcane had replaced tobacco as Miami’s primary export commodity and sugar plantations were being erected along both swamps that bordered Broward Boulevard to the west and Biscayne Bay to the south. Captain Houghton’s post also acted as a customs terminal for imports/exports entering/ leaving southern Miami-Dade County through its open port on Northeast First Street from 1837 until1847 when it became closed due to construction work on nearby Gulfstream Highway . On October 5th(), 1846 - two days after American independence was proclaimed - Spanish explorer Manuel de la Luz y Arellano reached Southwest Key Largo after sailing downriver from Havana via Biscayne Bay just north of downtown Miami Harbor aboard his ship La Luz with eighteen men including himself and five natives who had accompanied him across Cuba's key chain into international waters southeast of Key Largo where he anchored off modern day Pembroke Pines beach before continuing inland towards central Florida; his journey marking one of first European explorations into new areas within United States shores since Christopher Columbus' landfall near Tampa Bay in 1492! At this point Spain still held sway over much of southwestern Florida due to their possession over territory claimed by both Mexico (Viola) and Cuba under their crown heads respectively; consequently any exploration or discovery beyond those limits would have been considered trespassing on Mexican soil! After reaching Southwest Key Largo de la Luz continued northeast towards lower Pensacola Sound but stopped short due to bad weather conditions preventing them from following shoreline any further……..and camped ashore at Cutler Keys about 12 miles west thereof….. La Luz returned safely back home Cuba on April 17th 1748 having made contact with various Native Americans living along coastalFlorida coast prior thereto! In 1925, West Park became a city, and by 1930 its population exceeded 2,000. The city annexed portions of neighboring Hillsborough County in 1936, and within two years had built an extensive park system that included three parks (Olympic Boulevard/Fieldsboro Road/Pinecrest Drive), four playgrounds (Oakwood Avenue/Dolphin Boulevard/Highland Drive), and a public library. During World War II, West Park served as a critical military base for aircraft manufacturing; as a result, the park system saw significant expansion during the war period.
