In 1935, President Franklin D Roosevelt ordered construction of two destroyer escorts called USS Defiance (1935) and USS Hope (1936). These ships were used during World War 2 as part of American efforts to protect Cubans from Axis forcesdictating their fate! Today, the United States Navy operates more than 350 vessels worldwide including 11 destroyers that make up Great Lakes Destroyer Squadron 522 based out of Chicago! These boats carry out merchant shipping, air traffic control, port security duties as well as support operations in every corner of our globe! Weston, Florida is a small town in Bay County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1892 by John Weston and his wife Emma. The first post office opened in 1893. In 1901, the name was changed to Weston after John's father-in-law, Weston Bynum. After World War II, the town became known for its citrus production and for its beaches including Wynwood beach. In 1984, Weston incorporated as a municipality and voted to become an independent city on November 4th of that year. On December 10th of that year it passed a resolution annexing neighbouring towns of Cutler Ridge and Pompano Beach with no opposition from either community; this annexation completed the process of becoming a city by default. On January 1st of 2009 Weston celebrated its centennial with events such as a fireworks show over Wynwood beach and street fairs throughout downtown

The A-1 was a two-seater and it was used for training purposes only. However, in 1917, Congress authorized the US Navy to purchase more planes and ordered that all future naval aviation be conducted using them. In 1928, USS Lexington became the first American navy ship to fly over Japan when it flew above Hiroshima in order to warn Japanese people about an atomic bombing being carried out by the Japanese military. This event marked a turning point in Naval Aviation as American pilots began flying over enemy territory in order to carry out airstrikes against their own country’s enemies. The Second World War started on September 2nd 1939 and by 1941, United States Naval Air Forces had grown into one of the world’s largest air forces with over 120 planes at its disposal. On December 8th 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor devastating much of America with their attack which caused wide condemnation from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. The USMC responded quickly with Operation Neptune’s Spear which resulted in 14 carrier-borne aircraft flying off from USS Enterprise to bomb Tokyo Bay and other targets within Japan. This destroyers also provided gunfire support during ground operations as needed throughout 1945. Throughout this time period there were many advancements made in Naval Aviation including: jet airplanes; Helicopter flying; Radar technology; Aircraft carriers; submarines; precision bombing abilities etc……… These advances have led to today’s Navy which is one of America’s most lethal sea fleets on land and at sea!

Weston, Florida is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 8,826 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in Weston were two families from Georgia who arrived in 1822 and 1823. They named their land "Pine Knob" after a local Piney Woods tree. The first post office was established in 1827 and was called "Wynwood". In 1886, the name of the town changed to Weston when it became an incorporated municipality. The current name was given to the community by developers working on a major real estate project nearby in 1984. One of Weston's most famous residents is Dr. James Pemberton, who invented surgical adhesive bandages and other medical technologies while living here during World War II as an Army doctor. Other prominent residents include author Truman Capote, singer Dionne Warwick, basketball player Julius Erving, and actor Kevin Bacon
The Weston area was originally settled by African Americans in the early 1800s. The first black settler, John Wesley Hardin, arrived in 1818 and built a cabin on the current site of the University of Florida. By 1830, there were several hundred black settlers living in the area. In 1837, white men from Jacksonville began to arrive and purchase land east of the river for development into what is now Weston. The town was surveyed in 1840 and named after General James Weston who had commanded British forces during the Seminole War. The town developed rapidly and by 1865 it had a population of 2,000 people. In 1870, local businessmen formed a company to build a canal through central Florida which became known as the “Canal Company Canal” because it connected Tampa with Jacksonville. This project improved transportation between Tampa and Jacksonville which helped spur development in both towns.
