The Wildwood Air Force Base, located in Polk County, Florida, was home to the United States Air Force from 1947 until it was closed by the military in 1997. The base served as a Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron (HHS) for the First Tactical Fighter Wing which also included the 336th Bombardment Wing and two squadrons of F-4 Phantom aircraft. In 1974, the wing deployed to Turkey as part of Operation Neptune's Spear. After its withdrawal from NATO in 1991, HHS remained active at Wildwood while also providing airlift services to US embassies worldwide. In 2002, Wildwood AFB reopened under direction of then-Lt. Governor Lawton Chiles as part of Florida's Military Reopening Program. As part of this initiative, Wildwood AFB became an aerial refueling and logistics hub for the state's military forces. Today, Wildwood AFB is home to five squadrons of F-16C/D Fighting Falcons and ten KC-135 Stratotankers used for oil refuelling operations; four additional squadrons are planned to arrive over the next several years. During World War II, there were three main types of fighter aircraft stationed at Wildwood: P-38 Lightning fighters (1940–1945), P-47 Thunderbolt pilots (1946–1950), and Republic F4U Corsair wings (1951–1957). These three types were replaced by other aircraft during the Korean War but continued operation through 1957 when all combat roles were ended at DHS permanently closing down facilities such as HS2A at Homestead Army Air Field in Pensacola Beach FL on October 15 that year following a decision made by President Dwight Eisenhower who stated "the use or deployment of fighter planes within our hemisphere would be entirely outmoded because either we would have no opponents left or they would have become very good." Today's wildwoodsfcbld provide nearly 20 million sq ft runway space which can accommodate both single engine piston propeller airplanes like Cessna 172s and single engine jetliners like Boeing 747s with up to 16 passengers each side without lifting off from ground level; these aircraft can frequently provide local air traffic control service during events such as parades or family reunions using their large cargo holds capable accommodating up to 50 vehicles simultaneously including buses and trailers! Additionally today’s airport with its ILS system has allowed for increased tourism arrivals making it one of Americas leading airports catering exclusively to international travelers with direct flights into Miami International Airport!

Since then, USAF deployments have included service members from all corners of the globe: Europe; Asia Pacific; Africa; Latin America; and The Middle East. Wildwood, Florida was founded in 1837 by a group of Englishmen who named it after the wildWOODS around their home town of Worthing. The area became a fashionable resort destination for Americans and Europeans during the late 1800s, and development began in earnest in the early 1900s. In 1907, Wildwood became part of what is now Miami-Dade County. Businesses continued to grow rapidly through the years and by 1920, Wildwood had become one of South Florida's most prominent communities. The 1920s were also a time when many African American citizens moved to Wildwood following significant discrimination experienced back home in Tampa or Jacksonville. This influx led to increased social and economic integration within Wildwood as well as new cultural experiences for many residents. Many famous people lived or worked in Wildwood during this time including Roy Roberts, owner of Roberts Aviation Company; Babe Ruth; Charlie Chaplin; Al Capone; and Joe Louis. However, by the end of World War II, much of suburban Floridas annexation had occurred which affected Wildwoods population density and business opportunities. Economic conditions have since improved significantly with more than $1 billion invested into businesses and jobs throughout Broward County alone since 1995. Despite this recent success story, some elements that still hinder growth remain such as limited access to quality transportation corridors which has created challenges for entrepreneurs trying to start businesses on or near highway exits or highways themselves. Nevertheless, overall it seems that progress is being made at whatever scale - small or large - thatwildwood encounters
In the late 1800s, wildwood was a small, unincorporated community in Broward County, Florida. It was located on the western bank of the Miami River. The name comes from a wooded area near Wildwood Lake. The community had no post office and only two residents in 1892. By 1916, wildwood had grown to over 100 residents and a school District No. 8 taught there until it closed in 1971.
