On July 1st 1916 Wildwood became one of 120 towns in Florida authorized to levy taxes on trade with Cuba which proved to be very helpful during World War I because revenue helped fund shipbuilding projects across the state while at the same time keeping business afloat during difficult times afar from home1! From this humble beginnings we can thank ourTownsend brothers – Captains James Ransom (1916-1920)and Albert Townsend (1920-1922) who led our fledgling town through some tough times early on 2! From 1920 until 1982 Captain Alton Townsend led coast guard detachments conducting Search And Rescue operations off St Petersburg beach during Miami hurricane season 3 Captain James Ransom's successor(s) were Albert Townsend (1922-1925), Harry Larkin (1925-1927), Frederic Madden (27 microphone operator), Clifford Sperling(September 1928 – October 1929). Wildwood is a town located in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville-Boca Raton metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Wildwood were French traders in 1765. A trading post was established by Captain John Stroud in 1811 and continued to be operated by him until his death in 1814. In 1824, Colonel James Wilkinson purchased the post from Captain Stroud and it became known as Wilkinson's Fort or Wilkinson's Post. In 1827, Governor Andrew Jackson made Wildwood a county seat and named it after his friend General James Wilkinson who had died previous year while leading an army against Mexico on the border of Texas and New Mexico. The land around Wildwood was granted to local citizens for development on November 5, 1830 by Circuit Court Judge John Pemberton under Order No. 2339/1830 which read: "All lots within this distance of Old Wilkinson’s Fort (now called Wildwood) shall thenceforth be developed into farms or estates." In 1836, a small Unitarian Church was built on what is now Main Street near where present day US Route 9 intersects I-4 about one mile east of town center. Reverend Francis Parkhurst officiated services there for many years until he moved to West Palm Beach in 1865 following the Civil War when wildwoods became part of that city limits. A school was organized at Wildwood in 1840 by Mrs Henson but closed due to lack of students until 1845 when a new school building was erected on what is now First Avenue NE about two miles west of town center which served ever since as the town hall and also housed various offices including that for court commissioners and tax collector during those early years while much later portions thereof were used as housing stock for residents prior to becoming commercial property once again with office buildings once again occupying that portion currently south sideBeginningometimeafter1920 real estate activities commenced with businesses opening up along US Routes 9 & 15 including several banks although not all have long been extant & continuing into today

The Coast Guard has also played a role in protecting our oceans and coasts since the 1800s. Today, the Coast Guard continues to play an important role in keeping America's coasts safe by providing assistance when needed and helping to keep people and property safe. Some of the earliest examples of Coast Guard gift history can be found from 1824 when Captain George Fenton donated his vessel, "Cumberland" to the Service. This donation helped make possible the growth of the Coast Guard as an effective emergency service. From then on, coast guard gifts were often used to support other causes, such as education or charity. In 1951, Governor Francis Egan offered $5 million for a new Coast Guard station at Governors Island in New York City. This Station would become one of America's most popular tourist destinations and continue to play a significant role in maritime security today. Wildwood was founded in 1847 by John and Sarah Wildwood. The town was named for the wild woods nearby. The Wildwoods were one of the first families to settle in the area and they built a log cabin on their plantation. In 1849, they married Anna Maria Fenton and started a family. Over time, other families joined them in the town, and it became a thriving community. By 1870, Wildwood had over 100 residents. In 1878, an epidemic of yellow fever struck the area and many people died. The Town Council passed an ordinance prohibiting public exposure to the virus and it has been enforced ever since. In 1906, Wildwood became part of Jacksonville Beach County when that county was created from parts of Cape Canaveral and Miami Beach counties.
