The coffee industry is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Polk County and has been around since before World War II. In 1959, Joe Maga started his first coffee farm in the town. JoeMaga Coffee permanantly continues to roast their beans here at our shop and we are proud to have them as part of our local community. In 1987, Donato Leone opened Leone’s Italian Diner on US 1 in Wildwood and began serving up delicious Italian-style espresso drinks called “Maga Coffee” which were named after Joe Maga’s dad who had founded Leone’s Pizza Place back in 1941. Leone’s brought America its first espresso drink from Italy with his amazing blend of Italian roasted beans and milk products that now hangs on every cup you enjoy at Leone’s! Donato also started serving up traditional wildwood breakfast dishes like omelets, biscuits and gravy, French toast etc., all while enjoying a great cup of maga coffee! In 2009, he passed away but his legacy lives on through his restaurant and its many customers who continue to enjoy their delicious cups of maga coffee!

Maga Coffee is a coffee company that has been in business since the early 1900s. The company was founded by Jakub Maga and his brother, Stefan Maga. Jakub was a grocery store owner in Prague, Czechoslovakia when he decided to start a coffee shop. In 1928, Stefan opened his own coffee shop in Brno, Czechoslovakia. The two brothers continued to operate their businesses together until they both passed away in 1960. Jakub's death left his son, Petr Maga, as the head of maga coffee. Petr started maga coffee with the goal of creating a quality cup of coffee that would be enjoyed by everyone who visited his store. Today, maga coffee is one of the most popular and respected brands in the caffeine world.

In 1831, the area now known as Wildwood was a part of St. Augustine, Florida. The first Europeans to set foot in what is nowWildwood were members of the Spanish expedition that explored the Floridas in 1565-1566. After landing on this coast, they built a small fortification called La Fortaleza de San Marcos near present day Wildwood. It was here that General Antonio López de Santa Anna met with local chief Tonacura and agreed to give him control over alligator hunting in St. Augustine Bay. In 1799, Captain John Smith traveled through this area and named portions of what are nowWildwood and Key West after his friends and generals James Wilkinson and Sir George Washington. After razing the fort at La Fortaleza de San Marcos in 1813, American settlers began arriving in large numbers during the Seminole Wars (1835-1845). The first white settler to arrive in what is today Wildwood was James Wilkinson who arrived with his family on July 12th, 1836 from Georgia. He purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) of land east of present day Key West for $100 per acre$. From here he started building houses which he named “Willkinson’s Plantation” after himself and his wife Jane (née Wilkinson). The first post office opened in these premises on November 1st, 1839. Wilkinson died on October 16th, 1840 leaving behind four children: one son James B., one daughter Mary C., two sons Donald M., and Arthur D.. One daughter also married into another family shortly after her father’s death; thus giving rise to six children total: three daughters by James B., one daughter by Mary C., four sons by Donald M., and two daughters by Arthur D.. By 1860 there were over 100 citizens living within five miles (8 km) of Wildwood proper.. In 1861 citrus fruit was being grown for export around Present Day Key West so wild wood acquired its name from early settlers who thought it resembled how orange trees looked when new arrivals saw them for the first time – wildwoods look like tall oranges! In 1916 Wildwood became part of Mount Pleasant County which at that time included most of central Florida including Jacksonville, Tampa Bayou & St Petersburg Beach! By 1930 there were only 10 residents remaining within 5 miles (8 km) of Wildwood proper while much of southeast Florida had been annexed into Tallahassee County! However by 1980 there still remained over 150 residents within 5 miles (8 km)of Wildwood proper along with a full mix of cultural heritage resources making it an extremely diverse community hosting both Old World cultures as well as African American & Hispanic descent
Wildwood had a population of just over 1,000 people in 1900. The town was founded by settlers who drove outigators from the area and named their new settlement Wildwood after the nearby wildwoods. The first post office was established in 1907. In 1910, the city installed a water tower to provide for its residents' drinking needs. By 1920, Wildwood had an annual budget of $5,000 and employed only one person as a police officer. In 1932, Hurricane Charley hit Florida and destroyed most of Tampa Bay's waterfront businesses including Wildwood's Water Tower. As a result of the storm damage, Wildwood's economy crashed and its population decreased to 500 people by 1934. However, due to donations from local business owners and philanthropists such as William Randolph Hearst, the community regained some stability within five years and now has a population of around 1000 people. The city installed new streetlights in 1959 which helped improve safety on main streets during nighttime hours
