In 1959, wild woods again annexed unincorporated areas of Lauderdale Lakes and Indian River counties to form a second municipality with an estimated population of 30,000 residents; this annexation remains effective today as both municipalities are known as Wildwood City Council District 2 (WCD2). As one result of its high concentration of businesses and jobs within walking or biking distance of most homes and schools – including two large shopping malls – WildWOOD has become known as “the business town” or simply “the town” since 2000 when it became the first city in Broward County to be listed on the Forbes List Of America's 50 Best Places To Work®
