In Wilton Manors, Florida, the United States Air Force has been deploying gift history for over 60 years. The air force's Gift History Museum is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area and annually hosts more than 1,000 visitors. The museum is dedicated to highlighting and preserving USAF gift history. It features a collection of over 2,000 items, including military uniforms, tools, equipment and memorabilia from throughout America's military involvement in World War II and the Vietnam War. Some of the most common gifts given to air force personnel are vehicles or aircraft. In recent years, however, there have also been initiatives to give back to the community by giving away new clothes or toys for children in local schools. One recent gift was an air force deployment package that contained a variety of objects related to the military including clothing, medals and insignia, pistols and other firearms, books on special forces operations and other military topics, as well as snacks and drinks. The package was designed to provide general relief to those who may be affected by war or natural disasters. Other recent gifts include an air force deployment cake mix containing variations of flavors such as chocolate chip cookie dough, peppermint cream cheese icing etc., along with a variety of snacks and drinks for troops stationed abroad. The Air Force deployed a gift history in Wilton Manors, Florida on October 12, 2018. The gift history was for the American Legion Post #4. The post sent out an email inviting residents to come and receive a personalized ornament from the Air Force. Residents were able to choose from a variety of items, such as a service dog or pet bird.
Wilton Manors is a community located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. It has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s when Wilton Manor was developed as part of Overtown. Today, Wilton Manors remains an important cultural and economic center in Miami-Dade County. The first settlers to the area were Spanish people who arrived in 1763 and named it San Pedro de la Vega. In 1835, a group of Englishmen settled at what is now called Overtown and began developing the land into what is today known as Wilton Manor. They founded the town on October 25, 1835 after purchasing 1,000 acres from Juan Bautista Moreno Sr., one of the founders of Miami-Dade County. The original name for the town was "Overtown." In 1860, John Prentice built a cotton gin on site that continues to be operated by Prentice Brothers Incorporated today. By 1865, over 100 homes had been built in what is now known as Wilton Manor; however, most development occurred during the 1870s and 1880s when several large plantations were established in central and eastern Miami-Dade County along Whitehall Road (now Lincoln Rd.). During World War II there was significant activity at Plantation Row Naval Air Station which became home to many Navy officers and their families who used its airfields for training purposes during WW2 as well as providing necessary housing for those Officers’ families living on base while stationed overseas. When Plantation Row closed down following WWII some of its residents moved away but many remain buried at nearby Evergreen Cemetery including Captains Caldwell (USN), Doyle (Navy) and Cook ( Merchant Marine). This cemetery also contains graves of other military personnel killed during WW2 such as Lt.(jg.) Robert Ewing USNR who died during Operations Neptune's Spearand Majestic Avenger USS Lexington which sank off Key Largo on December 7th 1942 with all hands after being attacked by Japanese submarines under cover of darkness while escorting Convoy NINETY four days earlier completingOperation Drumbeat before striking deep into Japan’s East Coast waters Off Korea two weeks later Operation Killer Bee ). The USS Lexington Graveyard can be found just south side property line from Stonington Drive intersection adjacent to Evergreen Cemetery across from Memorial Stadium .

This year’s Operation Christmas Tree is also unique in that it will include a display of American military decommissioned planes from World War II through today’s aircraft carriers. This display provides a beautiful reminder that no country is immune from America’s commitment to freedom, democracy and peace.

Wilton Manorsborough was founded by Captain George Wilton in 1824. The town became a major center of trade and commerce in the Keys. It prospered despite natural disasters, such as hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes. In 1907, the town experienced a devastating fire that destroyed most of its buildings and left many people homeless. Today, Wilton Manorsborough is a small but thriving community located on the eastern side of Key West. Its rich history has been documented through its architecture, businesses, and culture. The town's namesake is also responsible for developing much of its downtown area into one of the most impressive sights in all of Florida.
The Wilton Manors Plantation was founded in 1795 by John Wilkinson. The land for the plantation was given to him by his father-in-law, Colonel James Wilkinson. TheWilkinson family resided on the plantation until 1898 when they sold it to Edwin P. Gaines and his wife Maybelle Gainsborough Gaines. In 1922, the Gaines family sold the plantation to Harry Humble who leased it to Dr. Wanda Boggs in 1954. In 1978, the Boggs family sold it back to Edwin P. Gaines and Maybelle Gainsborough Gaines who resided there until their death in 1984. Then, in 1988, the property passed through into private hands and is now managed by Florida Historical Society as a tourist attraction known as Wilton Manor State Historic Site
