In 1957, ownership of the now defunct Floridian Electric Company passed through two families - including that of owner/manager John Fenton - before being sold to Humble Oil & Gas Corporation for $2 million cashmere purchase price with interest accrued over 10 years plus 2% annual dividend yield on stocks owned by Hughes Petroleum Corporation among others interests which would eventually include Stanislaus Energy Company's leasehold interest in Fenton's company assets subject to final disposition upon expiration or withdrawal from service by Humble Oil & Gas Corporation effective November 30th 1984 pursuant to Houston Texas Utilities Commission Order No 07-1984-0003 dated October 21st 1984 which provides: "That as long as Hughes Petroleum Corporation shall maintain continuous operations thereon with no change expected pending any action taken by either party thereto [the State Electric Cooperative] then such property will remain subject to their beneficial ownership". This event would result in a major power struggle within the local community with HumbleOil&GasCorp blocking any new development while Stanislaus EnergyCompany successfully lobbied for Existing Development Rights (EDR) on behalf of their lease holders effectively maintaining much older infrastructure including numerous pipelines running into and out of this municipally owned land until today when access restrictions are placed on these parcels along with prohibitions against further drilling and hydraulic fracturing activity due to public health concerns surrounding nearby residential areas
On May 10, 1861, Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest led a brigade of cavalry into Wilton Manors after a successful raid on the town. The town was Accuracy's largest cotton market and its loss could have serious implications for Confederate supplies and troop movements. The Battle of Wilton Manors took place on May 11 and 12; the Confederates lost about seventy-five men killed or mortally wounded, while Union forces numbered only eight men killed and four captured. The battle is considered one of the most important engagements in the Peninsula Campaign.
