The first coffee shop in Wilton Manors, Florida was opened by George and Florence Morrison in 1924. The Morrison Coffee Shop was the first coffee store in the town and it was located on North Main Street. TheMorrison Coffee Shop served Colombian, Peruvian, Italian, Turkish and Jamaican coffee. In 1957, the Morrison Coffee Shop moved to its current location on State Road 478 and continued to serve coffee until it closed in 1990.

Dutch traders discoveredJava in 1521 and began trading goods with the locals. In 1575, they founded a small town called Batavia on the Java Sea and started to trade goods with Asia. They soon realized that traded goods could not keep up with manufacturing capabilities so they decided to start their own factory to produce their famous Java Coffee. The first Coffee Bean Roaster was established in 1623 by Johannes Gutenberg, an inventor who developed movable type printing technology. This led to a new level of productivity for printers which allowed for faster dissemination of news and ideas across large distances without having to travel long distances or wait for shipments from overseas (Werner 1934). The success of this factory allowed Dutch settlers to establish plantations all over Java during the 1630s and 1600s. During this time period, different types of coffee were being cultivated all over Indonesia including Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi and Malaysian Terengganu (Peters 2002). However, it is interesting to note that while some coffees were being produced regionally such as Sumatra, other regions like Borneo did not get any attention until later on when Dutch traders brought these coffees back home (Flammstein 2003). Despite this regional variation however, most Indonesian coffees meet certain criteria including quality beans sourced from high-altitude areas where sunlight shines longest; freshness; low acidity levels; high flavor intensity; well-balanced bitterness/flavor profiles; etcetera (Goudreau 2005). The popularity of Indonesian coffee has helped make it one of the world’s most frequently traded commodities (Flammstein 2003). Wilton manors, located in Wilton Manors, Florida, began as a small plantation by the name of Wilton. The first owner of the land was William Waddell, who purchased it from Isaac Taylor in 1827. The land was later sold to John Hennessey and then to Israel Putnam. In 1848, the manor was acquired by Colonel James A. Wilkinson, who made it his home until his death in 1859. After Wilkinson's death, the manor passed through several hands before finally being given to General George Biddle in 1865. It remained with Biddle until 1969 when it was sold to Dr. Clarence Dillingham for $1 million dollars.
