Winter Garden, Florida is a small town in Pasco County, Florida. It was the location of Fort Walton Beach during the American Revolution. The community was founded by General James Wilkinson in 1824 as part of a plan to create a military post on an important strategic point on the peninsula. In 1841, Wilkinson sold Winter Garden to his brother-in-law, Colonel John C. Floyd, and moved the post to its current site. The first permanent settler in Winter Garden was Major George Loyd who arrived in 1800 from England with his family and built a logging cabin near present day Springdale Road. Other early pioneers were Captain Samuel Senter and his wife Rebecca (Becker) Senter who settled at what is now Old Winter Garden Road in 1811; Capt Lewis Dawson who came in 1814; Reverend Abel Perry who baptized children at their home between 1830-1831; Adam Packard who arrived around 1840 and set up shop near present day Hwy 474/Highway 98W.; James Wilkinson who arrived about 1850 from Scotland with his husband William Witherspoon Wilkinson also purchased land hereabouts; Atherton Pritchard which bought land hereabouts about 1860s; Jethro McKnighty which settled hereabouts about 1870s In 1899, when Pasco County was created from Miami-Dade County, Winter Garden became its section and remained so until 1959 when it became part of the new county.During World War II there were many local industries such as tool making, printing and plastics production that helped contribute to the war effort including creating over 1 million jobs statewide . The community experienced economic boom times following World War II with construction projects such as Interstate 95 being built through town including FirstEnergy Stadium , Home Depot Center and other high profile buildings . After 50 years of growth however growth has slowed down or stopped completely with only 5 residents living in Winter Garden as of 2010 according to census data . Despite this slowdown many residents continue to call themselves "Wintergardenians" due to their attachment to the community's unique culture and history

Winter Garden, Florida is a town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. Winter Garden is located near Tallahassee and Gainesville. The first winter garden was built in 1824 by Captain James Cook on what is now State Road 40A. It served as a botanical laboratory for the military. In 1892 the Winter Garden Civic Association established a park which included a greenhouse and conservatory with over 2,000 plants from around the world collected by Mrs. Hilda Fenton of Tampa. The association also donated land to build an amphitheater and playground on which today’s Municipal Center stands. In 1957 Winter Garden became part of the City of Gainesville; however, it retained its own governmental structure until 1978 when it became one of five townships within Seminole County under the jurisdiction of the newly created county government. Since then, Winter Garden has seen various growth opportunities including suburban development and annexation into adjacent municipalities such as Tallahassee and Sanford; however, most recently it has become an important agricultural center with production of fruits and vegetables significant among its economy
