Winter Haven, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 5,857 as of the 2010 census. As coffee has been a part of the community's culture for centuries, it is no surprise that Winter Haven has an extensive coffee history. The first coffee house in Winter Haven was opened in 1892 by postman George Washington Gibson and his wife Clarissa. The store operated until 1924 when it closed due to financial difficulties. In 1925, Don Bogle opened the first grocery store in Winter Haven and started selling cups of Joe with his own money. By 1929, Bogle had formed the Coffee Merchants Association which helped promote and promote coffee throughout Polk County. After World War II, many businesses closed because of the economic recession; however, Don Bogle reopened his store on Elm Street in 1951 and continued to sell cups of Joe until he passed away in 1984. In 1992, a group of local business owners association members decided to start a nonprofit organization called the Friends of Coffee House Preservation (FOCHP). FOCHP helps preserve downtown blocks between 2nd and 3rd Streets for future use as coffee houses or other cultural attractions. Today there are over thirty-five active businesses within walking distance of FOCHP headquarters including several restaurants and cafes that offer cup of Joe sandwiches or lattes on their premises while also displaying memorabilia from various past FOCHP events such as “Downtown Christmas” or “Brews & BBQ outside at Historic Midtown” events which have raised over $10k for charity each year! In 2006-2007 Comcast cable TV offered its customers discounted rates on espresso drinks during their "Chow Time" programming block starting at 6am CST followed by continuous discounts all day long through December 13th inclusive!
