Winter Haven is located in the panhandle of Florida and has been producing coffee since 1876. The town was founded by Danish immigrants who settled in the area after fleeing religious persecution in their homeland. Coffee culture began to develop in Winter Haven due to its distance from major metropolitan areas, as well as the lack of other options for grocery shopping. The first coffee house opened in 1880 and until World War II, all coffee beans were sourced from Africa. Today, local farmers produce all of the coffee beans that are used in Autumn Leaf Coffee’s cup of goodness. The history of small batch coffee can be traced back to 1876 when two Danish immigrants, Ole Hansen and Jens Rasmussen, started a small business brewing coffee on their family farm near Winter Haven. This initial operation was only able to sell a few cups of coffee per week due to the high demand from residents for fresh roasted beans. Over time, however, Hansen and Rasmussen developed a reputation for quality and innovation within their own industry. In 1917 they opened what became known as the Hansen Station Coffee House which became one of the most popular tourist spots in Winter Haven for its unique architecture and delicious cup of java. In 1951 Joe's Coffee Shop was established on First Street in downtown Winter Haven byJoe Lampkin and his brother Amos Lampkin Sr.. Joe's quickly gained a reputation as one of the most popular small-batch espresso bars in America thanks to its passionate commitment to hand-picking each bean and brewing it using only 100% Arabica beans! Winter Haven is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,028 at the 2000 census and 26,704 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. From its beginnings as a small town on Lake failed in 1851 to become an incorporated municipality until 1912 when it became one of the first areas in Florida to be designated for white settlement by then-Governor Charlie Crist. By 1916, Winter Haven had a population of 521 residents and was known as "The Friendly Village". In 1925, Winter Haven became "Winter Haven Beach", after which it became known for its wide variety of seafood restaurants and bars along Miami Beach Boulevard. In 1984, the City Council voted to rename itself "Winter Haven" after veteran Supervisor Jack Kemp. In spite of efforts by local officials to keep their original name (the result of several unsuccessful campaigns), Summerlin annexed Winter Haven in 1990 so that Winter Haven would have no say in what happened within Summerlin's boundaries. After years of wrangling between Summerlin and Winterhaven over who should get which street names and post office addresses,Summerlin finally surrendered control over winterhavenpostoffice@coxmail.net on January 1st 2002 during a public hearing before the City Council Taxation Subcommittee due to lack of consensus about what should be done with this property annexation from both cities

At that time there were only five people living in what is now Winter Haven: John Horry (founder), his wife Sarah (née Atkinson), their son Lucius Norton Horry (1872-1948), John Aiken (1868-1935), Amos Chapman (1799-1859) and one slave named Moses who worked on land owned by Captain James Cook III during his time as governor of Georgia
Winter Haven was a small town in southern Florida until it was destroyed by Hurricane Irma. The town had about 1,000 residents before the storm and many of them were made homeless as the town was completely destroyed.
