In 1916, James Murchison purchased land east of Highways 192 (now US 27) and 191 (now State Road 19) for $2 per acre which he donated to the city of Orlando as part of what would become called Murchison Square. With this land purchase came much development; Murchison Square became Orlando's first shopping center with a department store being built there in 1928 followed by several other stores over time including JCPenney until it closed in 1984 and Sears until it closed too around 1990 also leavingbehind what is now known as Murchison Square Center mall which features Macy's (-2005), RadioShack (-2006), Disney Store [-2007], UPS (+2008) among many others anchor tenants today

The success of Osceola led to other theme park openings throughout the state over the next several decades; among these were Universal Studios Florida (1992), Sea World (1996), Six Flags Magic Mountain (1999), Epcot Theme Parks - Walt Disney World (2006) - and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay (2012). On November 2, 2008 – less than two months after Hurricane Ike made landfall – Winter Park experienced its first tornado outbreak when four twisters touched down within minutes near Northwest Drive/Walking Street intersection; all but one caused minor damage or no injury however one homes sustained major damage including $5 million worth in loss insurance claims indemnification from that storm alone Following much anticipation since 2007-2008 when then-Mayor Cohen announced plans for what would become known as Osceola Avenue redevelopment project Phase I totaling 249 acres (.99 km²) including 23 new homesites with total asking prices north of $200 million – Phase II began construction in late 2009 withPhase III set to begin later this year initially addressing infrastructure needs such as water main replacement etcetera………………………………………………………..
