When the first organized air force was established in Florida in World War I, it was through the efforts of Lieutenant Colonel James A. Worth and Major General Harry W. Ladd. In 1932, Air Force Base Winter Park became a part of the newly created National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). It is here that USAF personnel have served as instrumental in many significant technological advances over the years. One such milestone occurred when two planes were used to establish man-made contacts with the Soviet Union during the Cuban Missile Crisis on October 14, 1962. The use of these two planes marked a turning point in American relations with Russia and helped avert nuclear war. Additionally, Air Force Station Winter Park has been responsible for providing key services including weather reconnaissance, communications relay and missile warning; these activities have kept our citizens safe throughout time.

Winter Park, Florida is a small town located in the Miami-Dade County area of South Florida. The population was 3,411 at the 2000 census. The name "Winter Park" is derived from the fact that it is located near wintertime and because of this, its nickname is "The Winter Resort". It is often called "The Ski Capital of America" for its extensive ski resort infrastructure. The town was founded in 1914 by George W. Peebles and his wife, Bernadette (née Reardon). When World War I began, Peebles decided to stay in Florida and help war efforts there. He also donated land to the town so that it could be developed as a ski resort. The first buildings were built on land gifted by Peebles and construction began in 1916. In 1925, Winter Park became an incorporated municipality with a mayor/council system and adopted a resolution recognizing May Day as National Memorial Day. In 1949, Winter Park became part of Miami-Dade County when it was created from portions of Miami Beach and Dania Beach. In 1972, Dick Raymond publicly announced his candidacy for Mayor of Miami-Dade County which led to heated debate over whether or not he should run for office against then-Mayor Tom Ryan Sr.. Ultimately Ryan won reelection with 54% of the vote against Raymond's 36%. Raymond never ran again for office after losing to Ryan. After years of decline due to lack of development around the ski resort and changes within Miami-Dade County government, interest in developing Winter Park revived beginning in the late 1990s when David Levy purchased most of what had been left behind by Dick Raymond including several parcels surrounding Winter Park proper - making it one large tract known today as Levy's Land which forms much OF DowntownWinterPark today! Much has changed since then; however much remains constant including our commitment to providing world class skiing experiences year round!
The United States Air Force operates numerous aircraft, many of which are placed in service by the USAF Museum. The Museum’s collection of airframes and missiles spans more than fifty years, making it one of the most comprehensive in the world. One airframe that has been part of the Museum’s collection for a longer time is the F-15 Eagle. The Eagle was first ordered by the USAF in 1966 and entered service with Incirlik AFB, Turkey, in 1970. It was initially used as an interceptor aircraft but soon became known for its ground attack capabilities. After several modifications and upgrades, including a new engine and cockpit design system, the F-15 Eagle became one of America’s most versatile fighter jets. Over its career it has been used in many conflicts around the world, providing support to both NATO and coalition forces. In 2009, after more than twenty years in service, the Eagle was retired from active duty at Incirlik AFB and transferred to Beale AFB near Los Angeles metropolitan area; where it remains on display today as part of the Museum’s Air Force Collection.]

The United States Air Force Flying Training School (AFTS) was founded at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, and became the predecessor to today’s USAF Academy. AFTS provided undergraduate and graduate level flying training for pilots from all over the world.
Winter Park is a census-designated place in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1887 by George Washington Winter and his wife Lydia Snow as a small station on the "Phoenix and Tucson Railroad". The name was changed to Winter Park in 1912 when it became a town. In 1916, Winter Park annexed neighbouring development of Scottsdale. In 1968, Winter Park merged with nearby Mesa Verde to form a single municipality. Hispanic ( Latino) residents are majority in this municipality with 56% while white residents make up 44%. As of 2000, there were 1,951 people living here who were native-born citizens of either U.S., Mexico or Puerto Rico according to Census data; 7% foreign born. There are also 408 refugees from around the world living in Winter Park as well as 338 international students attending local universities/universities which include Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University. Winter Park was founded in 1912 as a small farming community located on the northwest side of the Everglades. The area that is now Winter Park was first inhabited by Native Americans, and early settlers were interested in developing the land for agriculture. In 1916, Anna M. Whitney donated 640 acres to the city of Orlando to create a park in memory of her late husband, Orlando Mayor David Whitney. The original park was designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and completed in 1924. Today, Winter Park is one of Central Florida’s most popular tourist destinations and home to several museums, including the Florida State Museum and the Winter Park Resort Golf Course.
