The unit also served as provisional replacement command post for both Stonington Barracks and Miramar Field during their initial deployments before permanently returning to Whiteman Air Force Base near Atlanta Georgia late in 2013 after Hurricane Matthew successfully impacted that area leaving much of southeastern United States without an active USAF military presence.

Grant's running mate on account of his anti-slavery views, Abraham Lincoln visited Winter Park and purchased property for $5 per acre from Joplin brothers John and Samuel Gossett Jr.. After becoming president, he moved his family into the Presidential Mansion on 15th Street in Winter Park and began preparations for their inauguration on April 6th 1865. In 1924, Sanford Biddle donated 100 acres (40 hectares) of forested land between Indian Rocks Road and State Road 735 to the city of Orlando for use as a park known as Biddle Forest Preserve; it became one of Orange County's first parks when it was opened to the public in 1927.
