Winter Park is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 26,969 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Miami-Dade County. The city was founded in 1892 by dairy farmers who named it after their winter home in Germany. Winter Park became part of Miami-Dade County on July 1, 1895. The first settler to Winter Park was Wm Hickey on December 2, 1893. He and his family moved from Ireland to start a dairy farm there and name it "Winter Park". In 1894, the ice rinks were built in the city and winters were much warmer then they are now due to snow removal and new equipment by the City of Miami Beach In 1904, a post office called "Winter Park" was established but no mail ever arrived because the mail truck only reached one corner of town (the north side).
