Winter Park is a small town in central Florida, United States. The population was 2,849 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Hollywood, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first winter village in Winter Park was organized on December 15, 1892 by Dr. George W. Wright and Mrs. Lillie Halsey Wright to provide homes for people during the cold winter months. By 1916, Winter Park had a post office, two churches (one Protestant and one Roman Catholic), a schoolhouse and several businesses including an ice cream parlor and a general store. In 1926, John Crain built his home on State Road 7 near present day intersection of Central Avenue and North Street; this became known as the Crain House which still stands today with its own private driveway and garden area inside it. In 1939, after World War II ended and many Americans returned to their hometowns across the state line in Florida due to the war effort, Winter Park started to grow again with new development coming through its doors: soldiers from nearby Stonington moved into post-war homes in what is now Northwest corner of town north of SR 7 where they erected barracks for troops stationed there during the war while also developing another business district south of US Highway 441 called "The Overlook". Also that year James Ewing donated land east of SR 7 along Central Avenue for what would become Orange Bowl Stadium which served as home field for both college football games played there throughout most of its history as well as other events such as concerts by Elvis Presley or The Beatles before moving it to Miami Gardens in 1994 following their Shea Stadium tour which took place there that year only). In 1956 construction began on just south of Central Ave., becoming known as "The Lakeside" community after being completed across three blocks long with well-maintained streetscape typical for those days outsideOf downtown Orlando where Main Street crossed US Highway 441 just north of Walt Disney World Resort - giving us our current name today!
