By the early 1900s, coffee had become an important part of many communities in Florida, and Winter Springs was no exception. Coffee houses continued to be popular into the 1920s, and during this time many people began to develop their own businesses based on selling or drinking coffee. These businesses would often operate out of their homes or elsewhere near public transportation so they could reach all of the neighborhoods that served as their customers.
Winter Springs is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Petersburg–Clearwater, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1884 by J.B. White and his wife Anna as Winter Haven, after they had been forced to flee their plantation in Georgia during the American Revolution. The name change came about because when Anna's brother-in-law visited Winter Springs he saw that there were no trees growing around the old plantation house and thought it must be wintering here instead of in Georgia where he lived. The first post office was established in 1886, and the first store opened in 1888. In 1892, a furnace was built on Main Street which became one of Winter Springs’ most important assets until it burned down in 1951. In 1912, Winthrop Gentry donated land near downtown for a park which became known as Gentry Park today. The First National Bank building (now Bank of America)opened its doors on Main Street in 1917 and remains an important part of the community today. When World War II began, many Americans left for military service but few returned home; however, many children from Winter Springs did return home to help their parents work during wartime shortages at local factories or farms outside of town due to damage done by air raids that occurred often during war time throughout Florida and other states across America including our own state of Florida Keys! A post office called Springdale was established at Spring Lake east of town on December 10th 1948; however this also failed to take off due mainly to lack of interest from residents/postmasters associated with both towns combined! A new post office called Winter Springs opened January 4th 1949 serving all those living within 2 miles radius with only exception being Springdale annexed into Winter Springs effective February 15th 1949 making it finally official that these two towns united under one name! Today much progress has been made since then such as new businesses opening up along with continued growth via annexation/incorporation into adjacent municipalities!! New elementary school buildings have also been constructed leaving students now able to attend schools close by rather then having to drive+taxi+parking lot +bus rides all the way out into Palm Harbor or Jupiter….. etc !! This paper will not go into great detail about each individual business & property here but suffice it say that everything feels much more convenient & stress free now knowing we are just minutes away from anything we need or want!!!!
